Paint Party Friday: Colorful Characters

Thanks to everyone who visited last week as part of Paint Party Friday!  I tried to visit as many of the participants as possible, although blogger seemed to be eating many of my comments.  I really enjoyed the link-up, and I'm back again this week with two more characters.  For these, I wanted to make the faces more colorful (last week's all had fairly true flesh tones), and I really liked the results. In comparing with last week's faces (here and here), these seem to have more character and depth. I think it's a result of my growing confidence.  I want to try something similar using acrylic paints, instead of watercolors.
It's funny, I've always said that I don't like working with watercolors. But what I should really say is that I don't like working with traditional watercolors.  These paintings were done with twinkling H2O's and a water brush.  I'm curious about what other water color and brush combinations people use and like - please share your recommendations in the comments.
And thanks for stopping by!

Love the colours, I realise when I'm using acrylics for some reason I often use ultramarine blue for shadows on flesh :) Happy PPF :) It was a fun visit!

Oooh...I love these, Rinda. I'm so happy that you are sharing your sketches of faces as you progress through this class. It's easy to tell by looking back through your posts, how your face drawings are developing and your style is emerging. It's awesome! I look forward to seeing more face drawings from you in the future.

(LOVE that Paul made your sketch his profile picture on Facebook. Awesome!)

Well done Rinda. Love the coloring. I never hear of twinkling h20's. Am going to look that up when I leave here. I use mixed colors for skintones. In the mail yesterday my Shiva oil crayons arrived and will soon try those. There are so many mediums but you can try the:

Caran DAche Neocolor II Watersoluble Crayon Set of 10

for a watercolor look. Too many to mention. Go to online art stores and you will see. Nice job on your work. I like how your girl is saying, "where are my clothes?" tee hee.

They look so much fun to draw. :) I actually started with acrylics and went onto the watercolors. They were the scary part for me. :)

Wonderful expressions! I mostly work with traditional watercolors with an occasional foray into twinklings. I do like working on wet paper though. ~Happy Paint Party Friday #2 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33

I love your work on the faces! Each one is unique and has their own personality! I'll have to dig out my Twinkling H2O's. I forgot all about them. The color in yours is wonderful!

You might like to try Caran D'Ache Neocolor II's. They are awesome and last forever! :)

I love painting faces with "unnatural" colors, it really makes you focus on the features and the structure. these are great.

Love the colors and those faces are incredible! I just laughed at the "Where are my clothes." Have a great weekend! Blogger is at it again with the comments or I should say IE!

So you're also still working on faces - so do I. That class was great!
I do like watercolors - I actually like the little cakes. I once bought them to take them with me on our trips, and they turned out fine. I recently bought some watercolor pencils by Faber Castell and I LOVE them. I use them a lot on my girls. The caran d'ache water soluble crayons are wonderful as well.

watercolors are so different than acrylics, it takes much practice to get used to them...for me, it's all about the pigmentation...i don't care for WC pencils at all...what i like to do is buy ONE new medium and try it out before i buy more...that way you know if you like it before you spend a lot of money on a set...and sets by different makers can be tested by buying ONE half pan...i love my sennelier WC's but i don't like the windsor/newton pan sets but i like the WN tube colors...and acrylics are so versatile they can be watered down just like wc's...happy PPF, rinda

These are great - It is so fun to see the additional colors! (Frequently I use whatever is closest on my desk when I'm ready to add color! Ha!)

I've been enjoying your many faces. I would have never thought of doing scribble faces. Well, actually, doing any kind of drawing/sketching terrifies me. That is something thing I hope to get over as I would really like to learn how to sketch.

Have you tired watercolor pencils? I like using them.
