Halloween in My Community, 2011

This is the first year where neither of the kids dressed up for Halloween, so the holiday snuck up on me a little. Paul and I went over to some friends' house in a neighboring community where Halloween is a BIG deal.  All the adults dressed up:
The "1%"; Captain Kirk and a intergalactic conquest.
The "Girl with the Dragon Tatoo."
"Devil's Slide," which is the name of the stretch of highway just north of here, which slides into the ocean occasionally, causing all kinds of traffic problems. This was my favorite costume.  Then we all went over to "The Witch's House," which is decorated with all kinds of pumpkins:
The neighbors next door were showing "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" on a wall in their garden:
And, another group of neighbors had set up a stand to give out "jello shots" (vodka-infused jello) in syringes to adults:
I think I'm going to like the post-kid Halloween stage!

I'm adopting Deb's November Month of Gratitude idea, and I'll be listing things for which I am grateful each day in November.  Today I am grateful for: having adult friends who know how to have a good time.

My goodness, what a tremendous effort and a lot of fun by the looks of things!
Halloween is barely acknowleged here, a vast contrast for sure, looks like it was a really great night for the big kids!

In our little spot of the world we are so out in the sticks that we don't even get any trick or treaters. I love the excitement that goes on around your home town.

Wow! I especially love the idea of having the film running. I think over here we have a lot of catching up to do - it's not so many years since fireworks were illegal and everyone stayed indoors as soon as it got dark here.

Oh wow they really go to town on it don't they. Love some of those costumes - a lot of thought has gone into them and I can't believe the artistry on those pumpkins! Here we're lucky to see the plain old stuff before the teenagers smash on the roadways. (:

We haven't been to a Halloween party in years! Looks like a lot of fun.

Looks like a lot of fun - we were suffering from lack of teen interest/too much homework this year and so the night itself was quiet!

Wow! I want to spend next Halloween with you, Rinda! You're right - your friends really know how to have a good time. All those pumpkins? Wow! And the jello shots in syringes is a great idea.

PS: So grateful we are friends! xo
