I've watched a lot of sunsets in my time. We live on the Coast with a westward facing deck, and my husband has been a sunset aficionado his entire life. But I can't remember ever consciously watching a sunrise before. Our house is not well suited to the endeavor. Besides the lack of a clear view at the East, mornings tend to be foggy and damp. The sun breaks through in the mid-late afternoon. But, Clara and I decided to take a spur of the moment trip to Southern California to visit relatives, and we started our adventure in the mountains around Idyllwild visiting my sister. I told her I wanted to take a photograph of the sunset, and she told me it would crest the ridge around 6:30 a.m. That seemed very civilized, so this morning I got up to try to capture it. This image is from my iphone, processed in instagram ("rise," of course). I took lots of photographs with my big camera and will post those when I get back home.
In the meantime, I wanted to post this one and to say thank you to everyone who linked up this weekend with the July linky for the 2014 Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt. If you haven't yet, it's not too late to do so. Just click here and add a link to a post about one or more of your Hunt finds and do try to visit a few other participants. I'm off to do some catching up myself, and I'll check in when we're back from our trip.

A spur of the moment trip sounds wonderful, and your sunrise is lovely. Still need to do this one myself.
Lucky you to get the sunrise!!! It's such a beautiful one!
I've enjoyed the scavenger hunt very much, it was so much fun to look for all the items in Europe. My daughter loved it as well - she often was on the lookout for items on the list. I look forward to next year's hunt!
It's beautiful. Spur of the moment often works out the best.
That's a beautiful sunrise....and at a civilised hour....they are still at about 4.30a.m. here!!
Worth getting out of bed for Rinda.
A beautiful shot! That will be my most difficult as it means getting up REEEEAAAALLLLLYYYYYY early :(
Definitely worth getting up early for...brilliant capture!

Until recently I was up at 5am for work so I got to see plenty of sunrises and some took my breath away. But I've only just taken the photo for the scavenger hunt. Yesterday I set the alarm but it was too dull and cloudy, luckily this morning was better and I finally got my photo. One of my best sunrises was at the Grand Canyon. I'm happy to get up at silly hour for something so memorable.
I will post some of my photos soon and add a link.
I like the idea of spur of the moment trips. Lovely photo and so worth getting up for.
Lovely sunrise photo. Hope you and Clara have a wonderful trip.
Beautiful!!! I had hoped to catch a sunrise on our trip to the Canadian Rockies, but it was at 5:30 am & I was only up early one day (because we had a red-eye flight home) and the sun wasn't up yet! sigh
Fabulous photo and a very civilised time! I'm still working on this one!
This is so beautiful!
This is a lovely photo... I am up before dawn thanks to jet lag but because of the same reasons you give I probably won't see the sun rise :(
Beautiful! I'm waiting a bit longer to get a sunrise one - somehow getting up that early and having to drive somewhere to see it (our house does not afford views of sunrises)just hasn't made me want to yet. :)
6:30 does sound like a much more reasonable time for sunrise :) Lovely framing with the trees.
