PPF: Abstracting Nature

In the Ode to Nature class I have been taking, Week 4 was all about Creating Nature Inspired Artwork.  Alisa encouraged students to doodle and work in other abstract ways.  I am definitely NOT a doodler (although I've seen some wonderful examples of doodle artwork in the class flickr gallery, especially this one by Andy Lean). I was willing to try some of her other suggestions, though, and I came up with today's piece for Paint Party Friday. It's an art journal page based on the seed pods I featured in this post. I abstracted the shape a bit and went with unrealistic colors to create this art journal page.  I added a scripture quote which Abi added to her post here and which has really stuck with me since I read it. For other entries in Paint Party Friday, go to this link

Gorgeous - truly inspiring, both the beauty and the words themselves.

It's a fabulous Bible verse, I love it too :) And I love how you've presented it here! How big is the page? And is it in a journal, or is it loose so you can put it on display? x

the teal color in your painting pulls the piece together and makes the verse "sing" to the viewer - beautiful.

This is beautiful Rinda! It reminds so much of a quote I refer to often, There is no problem that God and I can't handle together. My good friend has that on her license plate frame and I love to read it when I see her car or just to refer to it in my mind.

Fav color combo! Great job abstracting those seed pods. And thanks for sharing the Flickr pics. Such inspiration, as I'm more the dooler type of artist.

I totally think you made the seed pods so much stronger with your style and color! Your pennants are fabulous- how cool that you are making that book!

Beautiful, Rinda! Those seed pods look actually pretty realistic. I understand why this scripture quote stuck with you - will happen to me as well. Alisa's class sounds really interesting!

This class is really letting you stretch your art muscles. The seed pods are great. Don't you love how alien they can look sometimes?

Just catching up this weekend and saw that you had linked my doodles to your blog. I am humbled that you feel other artists will enjoy seeing them.
You have a great colour combination Rinda, and the seedpod shapes look almost embryonic. Thanks, Andy.
