I'm not sure why, but there's something about clotheslines which speak to me. This watercolor art journal page reads: "This is the clothesline of my inner athlete." It's not the first clothesline I've done. I've posted this plaster pieces before:
And this art journal page:
And one of my all-time favorite photographs which I took in Venice:
I have no clue why I'm drawn to this motif, but I am. Just like I'm drawn to houses. Weird.
Are there recurring motifs to which you are drawn and you don't know why?
I'm posting this to Paint Party Friday. To see more painterly goodness, click on this link.

Clothlines are fun!!! I love them too, great chance to mix unmixable colors and patterns hehehe
Recurring theme... girl portraits, Frida, bald people.
Yes, mix and matching colours and also cleanliness and connection ... hmmm, so many ideas.
I like windows and arches and pears - the whole pear thing is completely left of field - they have just started appearing in my life!
Lovely pieces of art Rinda. I have a butterfly need - almost everything I make has butterflies on.
Lovely clothesline pictures, I love the bright yellow background in the first one.
I'm often drawn to clouds. There's something about their fluffiness! x
I always enjoy your clothes lines....I'm definately drawn to houses....and from there to windows....but it's probably flowers I use most often in my craft projects.
p.s. Carolyn at messmuddleandfun.blogspot.com has 'houses' as part of her 'finding fun' series this week...you might want to join in.
Cloth lines are so rare in today's world! When you draw them you keep them alive!! I think they are wonderful and my mom always had one and used it, even when she worked! My daughters mother in law used one with her ten kids!! I was never allowed to have them in neighborhoods I lived in!
I think the eco green generation will encourage and demand them once again!! For now, we get to see your wonderful artwork!! I love cards with clothes lines!! So fun!!

smashing collage. Happy PPF, Annette x
Wonderful clothes line. I like all three of them, but especially the second one, with the strong colours and the collage bit. And what a great photo! I must admit that I'd never thought of painting a clothes line, but I can see now how expressive they can be. Happy PPF!
Wonderful clotheslines! My favorite is the first one, lovely happy yellow, but they are all pretty and interesting! Happy PPF!
Such meaningful work and love all the textures. Thank you for sharing! :)
I was fascinated with the clothes lines hanging out of windows along the Italian Riviera. Hadn't thought of sketching it however. Great idea. Thanks, and Happy PPF
Fabulous, Rinda!
i love your clothes lines. I can completely see their appeal. They symbolize fresh air and clean and have such a nostalgic feel. We never hung clean laundry on clothes lines but, living on the beach, we always hung bathing suits and towels over them.
i am always drawn to beachy themes, sailboats, etc... maybe we're all just looking to return to simpler times! :-)
That's a fun photo! :) Your paintings are delightful. My motifs are faces. And sometimes cats. :)
I love your clothesline pieces. There's something very cheerful and optimistic about a clothesline. I doodle leaves, and sometimes faces, over and over again.
in our modern world without the usual clothesline we can forget the beauty of simple things. very cute!!!!
Clotheslines are fun, often colorful... I love them as well. I still don't know where to put them at our new house, I'm so used to air dry my laundry in the summer. Your pages are fun and beautiful, and I simply love the photo from Venice.
Your clothes line drawings are delightful. It does remind me of my childhood when we had a square clothes line in the back yard and mom hung sheets from it to dry in the sun. They smelled so good from the fresh air after they dried.
I love the photo from Venice. I bet she hand washed all those whites and that one pair of colored shorts!
Fun blog, I will be back. thanks for your visit to mine today!
I was so in love with all the clothes hanging in Venice too! Others were taking photos of St. Marks Square and the Doges Palace, but I was oh-ing and ah-ing over people's laundry! I love your piece today- such bright colors and great journaling!
Oh my goodness! This is fabulous! What a wonderful post - and your plaster piece makes me swoon! xo
Your inner athlete..lol Cracked me up!! You're a funny girl, Rinda. :D
I've always had a love for clotheslines, in fact I have a large glass jar with clothes pins in it. Love your work! Happy PPF!
Love these! Banners call to me in card making, scrapping, and photography.
It is true that each artist feels attracted by a theme which used often, it is a mystery!.
Very nicely done Rinda. I do have a clothesline and hang clothes and watch them wave in the wind. Hanging clothes is a joy to me. Takes me back to my childhood in trying to reach the clothesline or running through the cool sheets. I think it's in the blood of those who may have lived it or watched their mother's hanging clothes. I lived it and still do. Very nice, Happy PPF. Have a great weekend.
Fun and colorful creation ~ clothesline hold dear memories for us ~ thanks, namaste, ^_^
i love your clothesline art - it brings to mind the smell of fresh laundry mixed with a spring breeze. i'm not sure i have something that appears often in my works but i'm going to try to more aware to see if there is.
I love clotheslines, always take pictures of them when I travel. There is something so intimate about them, a little glimpse into a families' life.
I really like your clothesline paintings.
I love your Venice clothesline picture. I remember seeing some clothes out on the line when I was there.
Last night I was watching a TV program where one of the characters had been to Italy and was back at work with Italian music playing in his lab. A fellow co-worker passed by and upon hearing the music commented on how having gone to Italy he not only went there but brought it home with him. I couldn't help but talk back to the TV saying Italy has a way of doing that!
Houses. I'm definitely drawn to houses too. Especially little tiny cosy looking ones.
I do love the idea of a clothes line of my inner athlete - you've got my mind racing with that one. Maybe I do have an inner athlete trying to get out after all?
These are so cute... and refreshing! I think there is something peaceful about clotheslines.. like s l o w d o w n and smell the roses (or rather the fresh sun-baked, air-dried sheets and shirts!:-) fondly, minnemie
I love clotheslines but I've never tried to draw one, I love the concept. Your drawings are great!
This post makes me smile!!! I love your clothesline pics (especially that third one with the texture and vintage photo....oooh!) I have such fond memories of hanging out with my grandmother while she hung clothes on the line!! You just brought those memories to surface for me! :)
Venice is truly a wonderful place for taking your camera.
