A few weeks ago, I met some friends at what may be the last scrapbook store in the greater San Francisco Bay Area (Scrapbook Island). There used to be a dozen within an hour's drive of me (including one in my own small town), but they have been shutting their doors one after the other. And it's a shame. Because cropping at a store is wonderful experience. I enjoy the feeling of community and, of course, the opportunity to shop.
It's wonderful to be able to wander down the aisle and find just the right embellishment to complete a layout. For these two layouts, that's what I did. I had brought page kits with me of paper, photos and some embellishments. But both needed a little more to complete them. Can you guess what I bought for each?
Ready?
For the July 4 layout, I bought the little flag and the star bunting.
The The Hens layout, I bought the stickers of the hen, eggs and weather vane.
They added just the right finishing touch. Don't you think?

I do indeed! And they're not the sort of things you tend to have sitting around - they make great additions. It's sad so many places are going out of business ...
Yes, those items certainly adding the perfect finishing touch to your pages. I like being able to find something for my layout, too, but I'm considering taking a break from visiting the scrapbook store until I can complete some projects & use some of the supplies I have on hand! (at least for a little while) :)
They certainly do....I love embellishments for finishing touches.
Super cute layouts :) Good idea for the hens layout, you ave inspired me to do a layout with the hens pictures I have :)
I agree, it is wonderful to make something in a shop where you can go around and buy what you need. When we came to San Francisco I had the idea that scrapbook papers would be readily available - I had my son and husband traipsing around all day in search. If I ever come again I will ask for your advice first! It is such a shame shops are shutting, we have had some close but also new ones locally open this year.
There used to be a really great store in Berkeley when Sarah lived in CA. I went every time I came. We haven't had a local store like that in over five years although I never really enjoyed the crops at the store, they would have day-long crops that I loved. I still have a crop bag in the attic. Doubt that I'll ever use it again.
Great touches. I've never been to a scrapbook shop. I had hope to find one in Florida last year, but no luck
My nearest store (not that near actually) is closing in a couple of weeks, and I visited it for the last time yesterday. It's sad but I suppose they can't compete with the chain stores and the internet. I used to have four others that were nearer than this one and they've all closed too.
Perfect additions! The lack of stores around here (well there is Michael's but I don't consider that a scrapbook store) is the main reason that I've gone digital. You're lucky to still have a store handy to you. Hopefully it stays open.
