PPF: Paintless and Upside Down

Happy Paint Party Friday! I'm sharing my latest batch of dry or paintless art journal pages that I made for an online class offered by Kelly Kilmer. I think this first one, celebrating the joy of making art is my favorite for today.  For me, it strikes the proper balance between simplicity and clutter.  I do like both simple and busy styles, but they are sometimes hard for me to get right.  I do like this simple page I made:
It's about keeping focused on and holding tight to what is paramount in my life.  And though this next page was fun to make, it feels a bit too cluttered to me:
It's a few thoughts on my daily gratitude practice, and my favorite thing about it was using an upside-down focal!  My last two pages are also a bit cluttered for my taste:
Both of these use a technique of reflecting focal images (one right side up and one upside down). For the top page, all about mothers and daughters, I paired a photograph of my mother with a photograph of me (plus added a photo of my grandmother and great grandmother). The journaling is all about me and my daughter, Clara.  The last page is about how I could use some more time to reflect.  I used two (slightly different) photographs I took of an angel statue and a post card made my by friend the amazing digital artist Ingrid Pomeroy.
I hope you found some ideas here to inspire you.  To check out other entries in this week's paint party, check out this link.

Great collages, I know what you mean about clutter. I have a tendency to be too busy. Although I got to say these don't look cluttered to me. I suppose it is a matter of taste.

Fascinating to see how much the swap of the position of the focal point makes me look so much more carefully. Glad you are ensuring you have time to create and explore things - making it paramount.

Spent some time at the hospital yesterday waiting, opposite was the cancer ward - so sat and held you all in the light.

Amazing pages full of wonderful bits. I can't help but wonder if the pages aren't a reflection of what's in your life or mind. Journal pages really do speak to us if we listen!! Put them away for a bit, then look at them later without your inner gremlin breathing down your neck!!
I think the mothers and daughters is so special!! Happy ppf!

I really love the reflection pages....they are busy....but also very ordered....so they don't seem cluttered at all.

Oh I love the reflections too! I was only thinking as I lay in bed last night, I should take more time just to reflect - especially on my gratitudes. I love all your pages Rinda, busy and simple:)

Having trouble leaving comments today - I'm going to try again!

What I love about these pages is that they have me wanting to reach out and touch. I'm imagining that welcoming crackle you get from pages with lots of bits added to them

I love all your art pages. When do you find time to do so much art work? You have a busy family, and you have a job. What's your secret? I'm retired and can't find the time to do as much as I want to.

These pages are fabulous. I love how you mirrored the images and the layers give the eye so much to see and take in. Also am a fan of Ingrid's images! Happy PPF!

I really like your pages, there's so much story in all of them. And I like the upside down/reflected idea. Amazing that it's done all without paint! Really inspiring.

Gorgeous pages! I LOVE the first- it has such a great compostition! And the second page is wonderful to me too-but, I'd almost like to see it as two or three different pages because there are so many gorgeous ideas there, but it's a little hard to focus on them all as one page. (I hope you don't mind me saying that- I always appreciate constructive crit...if you DO mind just ignore it please;)) Bottom line is; your work is gorgeous and I'm now your newest follower 'cause I can't wait to see more!
Happy PPF,
Stephanie

Your pages are wonderful - it's funny how you can like one "style" more than another and yet someone else will love your more "cluttered" piece. My mom passed away last October and I am very inspire by your journal page on mothers and daughters. Happy PPF

Love all this collage. The thing about it is that it always seems cluttered to me- one of the reasons I don't do it. But I love seeing others work. Happy PPF>
