On Chasing Wild Geese

Artists in Blogland is hosting a biweekly challenge called "Fall Fearless and Fly."  The second challenge in the series has the theme of "taking a chance."  The color prompt is "least favorite color" and the quote prompt is "Don't refuse to go on an occasional wild goose chase -- that's what wild geese are for."  I decided to focus on the quote and use Payne's Grey, a color which I find confusing because it is oddly named for a shade of purplish-blue.  I liked the idea of creating my own "wild goose." I used a happy face and a fortune cookie fortune that reads "try something new and different. You will like the results" to complete the page.
As I thought about the quote prompt, I realized that right now, other than in my art, I feel like I don't really have the luxury of going on a wild goose chase. I feel like all the choices being made in my life are so serious and so important that they need to be made thoughtfully and oh-so-carefully. As I wrote in my journaling  "my wild goose will have to wait and that's okay." I know that someday in the future I will be able to return to chasing wild geese, and the geese will still be there . . . waiting.
What about you? Are you up for a wild goose chase?
To see how others have interpreted the challenge, be such to check out this link.

I Like that you said your wild goose will have to wait and that's okay. I love the face you put on the page too. There is a steadiness in it. Thank you for sharing your art!

Interesting response, Rinda! It's important to know when it's OK to chase wild geese :) Me, I'm not sure I'm in a fit state to chase anything right now lol...

I certainly wouldn't have guess that color as Payne's Grey either. I've been down really sick the last two days, so I'll have to wait for my wild goose chase. Instead I'm chasing good reads on the computer as I catch up on blogs & such!

This is interesting! Round here I think a wild goose chase means something slightly different becasue we would only ever call a trip one after we had returned without whatever we were looking for. It's not a wild goose chase at the begiining whenever we are still looking. If that makes any sense at all lol

Payne's gray is a weird one- I totally agree! Your goose is wild and wonderful- may you have the luxury of chasing geese again soon! So glad you shared this with Fall Fearless and Fly!

I might try chasing a Spanish goose... if I find any!
Paynes Grey is a very useful colour in the palette... it does some really useful stuff with colour mixing!

I love this page, and your conclusion that it's ok to put off chasing those geese for now. I use Paynes Grey instead of black a lot of the time, but I agree that it is a tricky color. I really LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your goose. Thanks for joining Fall Fearless & Fly!

wonderful interpretation. Your journal page is lovely. I am not up to chasing geese at this age, neither wild nor tame. Thanks for visiting.

I don't mind chasing geese. I chase chickens all the time so a wild goose chase would be a nice change of pace. :)

Honestly Canadian Geese are everywhere right now. They are loud, and many around here think they're just "dirty", crowding certain areas where they're not necessarily invited... but I LOVE them, and I think they are beautiful. Some want to chase them away, but I don't. So a goose chase, in those very words, strike a defensive nerve in myself. I've always wanted to try painting one, though... Maybe someday soon! LOVE how your version of a goose came out, with her beautifully colored wing and precious crown! ~tina

i love wild geese. watching them, that is, not chasing them! love your page and the spirit of the challenge. and you are right - there is a time and place for running after geese. and it is good to know when that time is, and when it isn't.

A wonderful page for your journal. And so true and honest of how life is for you at the moment. The fortune cookie saying is a great addition as you have certainly spread your wings using Payne's Grey. I really like the result.

I'm finding the difference in meaning interesting! Here, a "wild goose chase" means that a completed attempt at something which proved fruitless: we wouldn't know it was one till we had returned. But I guess setting off knowing it is could be, means that the experience itself may be exhilarating. I very much understand your need to garner your resources and energy and use them carefully: there are tight spaces where we have to do just that. :) The smiling face conveys to me that somehow this might be OK for now, and there will be time for wild flying another time? Very thoughtful post.

A watercolour artist, who's class my mother and I attended way back in the 1970s told us that Welsh skies always have Payne's Grey in them. It made us look, really look at the colours in the sky and 40+ years on I can say that he was right.

Lovely. Your wild goose looks like it is waiting patiently and regally.

I empathize with the idea of not feeling you have many choices - and that the results matter oh so much. Hope life loosens up and you get more time to just wander not worry.

I have faith that the wild geese will pass by here again just as they do each season on their migratory path. I am beginning to feel like I am coming on to one of those migrations and will be able to chase at least a few wild geese this time around. It's a good thing that life is cyclical for a lot of things.

I love that fortune cookie quot and the goose. Looks like something that would be found in an Egyptian tomb. :)

Your thoughtful take on this challenge really made me think. Sometimes, I feel the same way... and I worry that I don't take enough risks. I liked how you added "except in my art"-- definitely a good way to set those wild geese free. and your goose looks very wild and free! :-)
