A Tale of Two Churches

Barcelona, Spain has two amazing and very different churches, which I am posting as my item 17 in the Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt.  The Sagrada Familia (or Holy Family) is a masterpiece created by Antoni Gaudi. Here are a few close ups.
The Barcelona Cathedral is a Gothic Beauty.
I visited in the early evening, and the light inside was beautiful:
I think the two churches show the two sides of Barclona - the Gaudi creation represents the fun-loving, late night, crazy clubbing side, while the Cathedral represents the traditional, late-lunching, evening strolling and relaxing side. Although there were other pieces of Gaudi architecture in Barcelona that I adored, between these two, I think I prefer the Cathedral. What about you? Which one is your favorite?

  1. Beautiful photographs. I, too, prefer the cathedral. I'd love to see these in person.

  3. Having visited them both, how to choose a favourite? I have to say that the Sagrada Familia would be my choice for its originality and the Cathedral, would be chosen for its historical significance. I loved them both in their own particular ways.
Hope all is well at home.

  6. i have never been to spain but your photos are turning the travel wheels in my head. the interiors of places where people worship hold the whispered prayers of so many - i imagine both churches would feel so holy upon entering.

  7. I love both...though have only been inside the Cathedral, not the Sagrada. The Sgrada would prabably win just for the fact that there is so much to look at , even externally!

  17. I went to Barcelona in 1978 (a looong time ago!) and they were working on the Sagrada Familia. After more than 30 years it is still not finished! It is in a class of its own! Amazing work of art! Patsy from
