It's been a while since I've done an art journal page, and I've seen so many great pages lately that I got antsy and started making backgrounds. Once I had a background I liked, I looked around for some good prompts, and I settled on the current prompt for Creative Therapy. The question is: "What would you give your kids that you don't have?"
My page reads: "A passport. . . a passport with lots of stamps inside . . . a passport to travel the world and time with the family to do it. What am I giving my children that I wanted? As a kid, the farthest I ever traveled was Houston, Texas. In High School, I got to Chicago and Massachusetts. With our kids, my husband and I have taken them to Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Hungary, France, Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic. I hope they always love to travel and have a better understanding of the world and its people." The background is paper and paint. The pictures is one I took a couple of summers ago of the canal outside the apartment we rented in Venice for a week, just of of St. Mark's Square.
How would you answer the question?
beautiful background - it compliments the reflective water in the photo! what a great gift you are bestowing to your children. and along with the passport stamps, you are teaching them about tolerance, differences, and our world community while empowering them with the skills to feel comfortable in so many situations.
ReplyDeleteThis question spoke to me today - especially since I posted a layout with a picture of my parents wedding day. What I wished most for my children was two healthy, living parents, really, and I'm grateful every day that my children are now older than we were when illness struck our house.
ReplyDeleteI s'pose I feel a lot like Sian...as my dad died when I was very young....and after OH's severe health scare last year....them having 2 parents is a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteBut on a lighter note....travel is a great idea.....I never went abroad til I was an adult....and I'm so glad my kids have had that opportunity.
Funnily enough the DDs were looking at my Florida albums this weekend....and exclaiming over the memories it brough back.
Another beautiful page, and what a wonderful opportunity you've given your children. We've traveled a lot, but never out of the country (other than Canada and Mexico) with the kids. Both of them, however, have had opportunities to go to Europe--Matt to Italy for soccer and Sarah on a grant to Scotland.
ReplyDeletewhat a great background! I like the way all the colors work together.
ReplyDeleteI think I was able to give my kids (who are now in their 20s) confidence - something I did not always have.
For the most part I am actually working really hard to give our kids exactly what I DID have when growing up. There are always things that will be different and the times make opportunities available, but, through all of that I want our kids to have a great sense of family, belonging, love and togetherness.
ReplyDeleteI like how you see the reflection of the sky in the water. That is a great picture. What a nice gift to give to your children. They will have wonderful memories of their family vacations. I will never forget when my parents took us to California in the station wagon filled with ten people. You did a great job on this page. I also like the background colors.
ReplyDeleteThe background is very beautiful, I love the colors that you chose, they speak to me. And traveling - that is a great gift. I was bitten by the travel bug at the age of five thanks to my parents who took us abroad every summer, and I've never lost my love for discovering new places (and re-visiting "old" ones). It looks like this will go on with our daughter...
ReplyDeletebeautiful art journal page Rinda!
