I took a great class today. It was an intermediate collage class taught by Connie Andrews, in which the idea was to build a collage involving personal icons. I chose a trio of family heritage pictures that are all about women who are strong hearted and head strong - just like me. I used a key, a sacred heart milagro, some religious medals, a dragon fly charm and and some coins - all of which speak to me on a deep level. I really, really love this piece! Connie and I got into a bit of a debate after class as to what the focal point of this collage is. What do you think it is? Where does your eye immediately go?
I first looked at the heart - I think it draws the view because of its color. It stands out. But then I looked closer at the picture of the four women - lovely photo. I actually think the heart is a good focal point if you're talking about strong hearted!!
ReplyDeleteA lovely collage.
When I first saw the piece - the intial glance, it was the photo of the four women ... since then it has been the heart. This is a strong and bold collage - where will you place this one?
ReplyDeleteFor me it was the women too, but now I have had a good look at itl, the heart is equally predominant.
ReplyDeleteLovely piece though Rinda, this needs displaying somewhere special.
Fabuous piece, love the colours. I looked a the heart first and then the 4 women
ReplyDeleteThe Sacred Heart firstly, but when you look again, the photos stand out so strongly.
ReplyDeleteI really like this collage - and when I read your post's title, I knew it was one about you, Rinda!
I was drawn first to the heart....and then to the women ...a wonderful photo.A great piece,Rinda.
ReplyDeletethose four striking women first caught my eye but then the heart took over. But overall its a beautiful piece of art & I hope you find somewhere for it to hang where it will be seen everyday :)
ReplyDeleteIt's the four women for me too. So very striking they are, with their chic hair styles!
ReplyDeleteMy eyes go immediately to the four women. Once you asked the question I thought perhaps the heart, but it's the women that draw me into this lovely and thoughtful piece.
ReplyDeleteThis absolutely incredible!! I love it! My eyes go to the heart first and then the four beautiful ladies!!! Are you putting this somewhere in your studio or home?
ReplyDeletethis is a beautiful tribute to those amazing women and also to your own strength. i start with the heart also though my eye then circles around the page, starting from the 4 women and continuing to move clock-wise from there. stunning work. xo
ReplyDeletemy eye immediately went to the photo with the horse. but it is well designed to lead the viewer from one piece to the next. a beautiful tribute to the women who blazed some trails.
ReplyDeleteI was first drawn to the color of the heart but enlarged the picture to view the ladies. My guess is Aunt Carmen is the one on the far right. You favor her. Are these her sister? Was she the youngest of them all?
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Love the way you embellished your awesome arrangement!
