This week's challenge over at the Gingersnap Creations blog is "stitching." You can see a variety of wonderful projects at this link. Since I'm sewing challenged, I decided to create this card with one of my favorite stitching techniques: corner lacing. When I want to use this technique, I start with a template like this one:
I use it to punch holes into the paper I will lace on. Then I pull waxed linen thread or other fiber in and out of the holes in alphabetical order. It's quite easy, and I love the effect it gives. Let me know if you give it a try; I'd love to see the results.

Oooh, I like this one Rinda - the colours especially!
Back in the 70s this was such a popular thing, but I'd never thought to use it on a page. My friend's dad used to make really intricate pictures out of this kind of stitching, I'd forgotten about that. Looks so good on your layout, a real 'nest' effect with the bird.
Have never tried this,Rinda....it looks really effective on your card.
Like debs I remember this from the 70s -I used to love making pictures but had not thought about it for years. Love the use of stitching with the nest
I love the texture the sewing adds to the card.
That's a really clever take on stitching! I'm another one who can remember the string pictures of the seventies - my brother made one on handwork class. I like the idea of experimenting with this - thanks, Rinda.
gorgeous card and thanks so much for showing the sewing diagram...will have to try it out:)
this is so visually interesting and really "ties" your composition together! i will have to try it sometime.
This is gorgeous! Thanks so much for providing the template - I will definitely try this!
Oooh, this is awesome, Rinda. It reminds me of a school project I did years ago where we took a piece of wood and hammered nails around the edges and wrapped string from nail to nail in this same fashion. It was always fun to see the patterns form.
Love this card!
I also did this in the 70s but would never have thought of it for cards, thanks for the inspiration! Oh and your recipe book from the Let's Eat blog hop has gone postal, sorry it took a bit longer :(
Another one who remembers this from way back but would never have thought to try it again - it looks fab!
OO never tried this may have to give it a go looks lovely x
That top one is gorgeous!!!
Love your string art effect over the nest! Perfect!
This is great, and I'm glad to see the template because I wouldn't know where to start!
