It was also a good to do it because I'm knee deep in pre-work for the Get Out of Auto Mode class I'm taking at Big Picture Scrapbooks. We are to take ten photos of specific things, and I thought my blog was a good place to store them. The first assignment is a group portrait (above, auto mode, with timer).
Second picture is someone you love. Here's two pictures of my son Henry (each taken in auto and one changed to black and white. I tried to take them in programmed mode to reset the white balance, but I had trouble getting the lighting right and he started to get impatient). The first one will be my Mother's Day Portrait of him from this year:
Two people you love (DH Paul and DD Clara, shot in auto; note I made Paul change his shirt before I took the group portrait because the stripes were all wonky):
A flower in your yard (I shot some lavender in portrait mode):
A candid photo (the fans at Friday's baseball game, taken in sports mode):
Your favorite food (I took a picture of sushi on auto mode):
A self-portrait (taken in auto mode):
A favorite object in your home ( I chose my jewelery and had to work with my camera to get a decent shot. I put it in program mode to set the white balance to"flash"; I chose ISO 400 and the camera set 1/60th and F/4.8):
A person in action (Henry, shot in sports mode):
a landscape picture (taken in programmed mode, with WB set to bright sun and ISO to 800; camera set 1/640 and f/13).
Oh, and just for kicks, here's the portrait I took of Clara for Mother's Day:
Thanks for looking!

It is a great challenge to get group shots - I learnt a lot about that this weekend - you have done very well Rinda!
Your family look so friendly and happy - Clara's personality pops off my computer screen!
It looks like you did have a happy Mothers Day :) That's a lovely group shot (your kids are the same age as mine!) and if this is what your photos look like before class, I can't imagine what they'll be like after.
Oh, and what we call chips, you call fries
Super challenge and your photos look great.
What a great idea and your photos are wonderful! I'm hoping to get a good family portrait this week too. It looks like California's green hills are beginning to turn to yellow. I'd never seen them green before our trip in March.
Wonderful photos, Rinda! How fun it will be to do the 4 people 12 times challenge!
Fantastic photos! Looks like you are enjoying these challenges (and we're enjoying seeing what you come up with!)
Some great photos...love your Mothers Day portrait....and will be great to get one a month.
I love seeing these photos, Rinda! You have been busy with your camera. I just love the family shot at the top of your post. :o)
Great bunch of photos! Sounds like an interesting class
great photos - LOL at the wonky stripes! A very cool tradition to take the kids photos on Mother's Day.
A wonderful collection of photos :-) I love your family portrait, and love the idea of it - and of course J.J. must be included! xx
Love the idea of a family portrait every month for a year - unfortunately for me my son is back to uni in September, so won't be around, but I may try to do something similar as and when I can.
I'm visiting from the photography class! Great pics! I love the idea of a family portrait once a month...might have to steal that idea! I guess need to work on my pre-course assignment now! :)
Great pics! What a cool project!
