Wintertime Photo Scavenger Hunt Item #16: A Collection
I don't have an E-Bay account. I've tended to avoid the online auction site because it seems too complicated to me. Kindof like Etsy. I'd like to sell art work on either (or both), but not enough to actually learn how the system operates.
But I have a friend, Faye, who is an E-Bay expert. She lives in Eugene, Oregon, where my son Henry goes to school. Sometimes when I visit Henry, I stay with Faye. She is an excellent cook and is particularly well known for her fantastic breakfasts.
Her breakfasts feature wonderful scones and, often, coddled eggs. I loved the eggs so much that I decided I wanted to get some egg coddlers, so that I could make them on my own.
It turns out that the best place to purchase egg coddlers is on E-Bay. So, Faye told me to go to the E-Bay site and find some coddlers that I would like and she would help me figure out the process. It was so much fun to scroll through page after page of beautiful coddlers, trying to decide which ones to purchase. I had planned to just buy one set, but, in an "E-Bay Moment" quickly purchased three different sets for a total of seven coddlers!
I could see how E-Bay could become completely addicting. I love my collection of egg coddlers and thought they would be a good thing to photograph for Item #16 on the Winter Photo Scavenger Hunt. I also thought it would be a good first entry in Helena's "Pairs" Photo project. I'm calling my pair: "Whole" and "Part."
Do you make coddled eggs? Do you do E-Bay? What about Etsy?
Are you playing along with the Wintertime Scavenger Hunt or Helena's Pairs Meme?
I do occasionally use eBay for purchases. I've never had coddled eggs (to my knowledge)... I will have to look up what they are!
ReplyDeletethey are beautiful but I had to look up coddled eggs - I do love how we discover these little transatlantic differences through blogland. I don't think I've ever seen dishes like these in UK or NZ - but I think the end result would be like my grandmother cooked eggs in a ramekin sitting in a dish of hot water in the oven?
ReplyDeleteThey are like little pieces of art....beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of coddled eggs....perhaps we call them something different over here..though I've never seen containers like that either.
I love Ebay...and buy and sell...I've bought some lovely things from Etsy..but never tried to sell on there.
Hmmm..having followed your link to look at the coddlers..it seem most of them are made in England..so why have I never heard of them???
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother had egg-coddlers, but I haven't seen them around for many years - such a pretty way of doing eggs for breakfast! I hope you enjoy using these as much as you've enjoyed researching and purchasing them :).
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have been able to say NO to any of these...I love old china(and have many pieces from my grandmother). I have bought stuff on etsy and e-bay with no problems so far(though we are still awaiting a shipment from Israel!!)
ReplyDeleteI have an egg coddler! I use it very occasionally. Love coddled eggs and you can add seasoning and things like cheese to the egg!
ReplyDeleteI have one of these!!! Mine has raspberries? or perhaps blackberries? on it. I remember my dad being being pleased with this purchase. The coddler sits sadly unused but visually appreciated in my hutch.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of an egg coddler. What does it do? Is the finished product something like a soft boiled egg?
ReplyDeleteI used to sell a lot on ebay...& buy the odd thing too, but not recently...it eats up time so easily!! I love your collection & have to admit to not knowing exactly what a coddled egg is!! can you enlighten me perhaps?..I love eggs & another way to enjoy them would be great!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a coddled egg.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't have an ebay account either. I get my sister to buy if I spot something. For the collector it's definitely addictive. TSO and I used to buy dolls clothes when she was younger.
These are so pretty Rinda a great pair and collection for the winter scavenger hunt, which I am collecting pictures for. I buy and sell (sometimes) on e-bay with only one problem over many years. I buy from Easy and Folksy a lot, particularly for gifts. My Scottish friends used to do coddled eggs for breakfast but I need my eggs cooked a lot more :)
ReplyDeleteThese are a beautiful collection Rinda. I've never had a coddled egg, I wonder if they are like a poached egg, I will have to google and find out.
ReplyDeleteI have never bought on Etsy but occasionally buy and sell on Ebay. Like you I could easily get carried away if I was not careful.
A great pairing! We're eBay experts . . . as you can probably imagine since I'm married to a collector of vintage toys, trading cards, and such! :) He buys year round and once or twice a year we do some selling.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I avoid Ebay as well, but have a friend who has a wildly successful business there.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty collection..but I'm off to look up coddled eggs too! Xx
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty. I've never had a coddled egg, but then I like my poached eggs firm. Wookie orders many many things from Ebay, I don't often.
ReplyDeleteThose are really sweet. I used to sell on eBay, when it was still relatively new and easy. The bigger it has gotten, the more policies and rules, therefore the more time you have to invest. So I only sell once in awhile, although I am contemplating get back up to speed to unload some household collectibles which tend to multiple as you know.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely. I've heard of coddled eggs but never looked into what they are. Off to remedy that. :) I've sold one thing on e-bay many years ago but have never bought from it although I've been tempted.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coddlers Rinda, I have a pair of these my father gave me - in fact I may now have to coddle some for lunch! I use eBay a lot btw, love it, but you do have to keep your wits about you and not c=get carried away! :o) Annie C
