Shopping Fun!

When was the last time you went shopping for craft supplies? For me, it had been a very long time! But when I was in Eugene, Oregon for a crop recently, we went shopping, and I had so much fun! Since I've been purging my supplies, I was very selective about what I picked up.  I got some stencils, including some mask/stencil combos from Dina Wakley. I also found a wonderful tag pad with subtle backgrounds that I was really excited to play with. A few pieces of Studio 45 paper and a couple stamps completed my purchase. I was so proud of myself for being moderate.
On the drive home, we stopped for lunch and stumbled into a thrift shop that had some very interesting things. I got a "red" journal, some vintage photos and a Bible ABC book.  The really, really cool thing about the ABC book:
It's in Braille! If you look carefully, you can see the bumpy pattern. I took out all the bible pictures and kept the textured Braille pages. I can't wait to see what fun I can create in it!
As I put these things away today, I was very inspired. It's great to purge supplies, but it's also great to buy some new things. Have you bought anything new and inspiring lately?

  1. It looks like you exercised a lot of restraint buying those supplies. I like the girl/lady - what is it? Interested to see what you end up doing with the braille book.

  3. I wonder whose fingers last ran over that Braille?

I've been buying wool for my crocheted blanket and kind of wishing it had more colours in the pattern so I could buy a few new shades

  4. Good finds! A friend and I are going to a couple antique stores this afternoon after a lunch out. I'm looking for some textiles for still life photos. I did some shopping at Dick Blick in Evanston while we were in Chicago. There's nothing like that here, and I picked up some lovely art supplies.

I have bought a few beads lately for my embroidered hoops....some fabric for the 'friendship quilt'....and couldn't resist a Graphic 45 pad.

  10. Shopping for new craft supplies is always fun, but I have limited myself a lot recently - it's very expensive, and I also have such a lot that my goal is to use as much as possible of all the stuff I already have. That doesn't mean I never buy - far from it. When recently Golden discontinued their 4oz jars of acrylic paint our local art supply store had a huge sale of these paints - and I splurged. I haven't regretted it.

  11. I'm a firm believer that as we let things go, new and wonderful things come in to take their place. Those Braille pages are going to make wonderful textured pieces within your art! So cool!!!
