Rediscovering the Joy of Tags
I used to make tags all the time. I've always found them to be a wonderful size as a palette . . . large enough to tell a story or express a feeling, with plenty of room to use a variety of creative techniques. Yet still small enough to be manageable and not as intimidating as a big canvas. Tim Holtz fed my obsession with his hugely successful tag series. There is so much potential for variety of feeling and color. So when I saw a package of large tags with subtle backgrounds recently, I jumped on it. Since I was at a weekend crop with stamping friends, I borrowed a bunch of their face and girl/woman stamps and stamped a single image on a bunch of the tags to create this assortment:
And, today, I pulled out a few of the tags and had a great time creating three very different tags. The grungy, multi-layed "today" tag up top (which channels my "Orphan Black" addiction, I think); the Graphic 45 "Create your own style" tag in the middle; and this happy, springy postage-inspired tag.
The top one is definitely my favorite. What about you? Do you have a favorite in the group? Did you ever create on tags? Are you still doing it?
I've always loved tags as an item but haven't ever used them as a canvas. Love what you've done with them
ReplyDeleteLovely! I like the top grungy one best! With my fabric obsession at the moment, I haven't done much with paper lately - but you're inspiring me - I have a huge box of tags waiting to be played with!

I'm another fan of the top one. I just started a tag this week, but haven't finished it. They usually end up on a card or a journal page eventually.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the top one as well, although I like all of them. I still create tags, I often send them as little gifts for my customers.
ReplyDeleteI love tags too Rinda, like you say, they are a good size and you can add them to a project or have them stand alone. My favourite is also the top one, love it!
ReplyDeleteI've never made them or used them but I have lots of blank ones that I really should do something with. The top one is my favourite too.

ReplyDeleteI haven't been much for creating on tags other than those being included in something else. But this is definitely and inspiring thought. And might be a good way to create art to abandon as well!

ReplyDeleteI shall be the odd bird, my favorite is the third one. It makes me smile and feels light and happy to me. It's been quite awhile since I have made one.
ReplyDeleteI like tags as a size for making, but seem to have stopped doing so because I never know what to do with the afterwards.

Great tags Rinda! I've created a few as part of some online classes - mainly to try new techniques. I usually end up adding them to a layout later on.
ReplyDeleteThese are so much fun, Rinda. Lately I have been feeling the pull back to paper crafting - I want to make a mini-book or SOMETHING! Tags just might be the way to go...
