PPF: More Travel Pages

Today, for Paint Party Friday sponsored by Kristin and and Eva, I'm sharing a few more pages in my Passport to Art altered book.  This first one is about traveling by myself as an adult and the journaling conveys my belief that the advantages (quiet time to reflect, read and make art) are outweighed by my desire to share the experience with others. It's based loosely on prompt #25 which asks "who are you/ what makes you  who you are?" I painted the background pink and added a stamped ballerina who I painted with watercolors. In my book, the facing page discusses our philosophy of travel:
It was inspired by prompt #24  in the Passport to Art class about your beliefs. I gesso'd and painted over half the page for the journaling and put a post card and twinchie from my stash on the graphics on the other half.  Our philosophy of travel is basically to stay in one city for a longer time (rather than try to see lots of different cities),  rent an apartment (rather than a hotel room), to shop for food and cook at "home," visit lots of museums and try to get to know some local people. We will occasionally splurge on a special hotel or meal, but we prefer to spend our money traveling more often. We would rather really experience and get to know one city, rather than check off a lot of different sights.  The two pages together look like this:
My final recent page answered prompt #30: "Where to next?"
This one came together fairly easily.  The next place that I really want to visit is Australia. The jouranling reads "I want to see her natural wonders, cosmopolitan cities, ethnic heritage and my friend Amy." We don't have any plans to visit anytime soon, but a girl can dream, can't she? The design was determined by my desire to have it match the facing page about a trip I took to El Salvador.  The two together look like this:
You can see that my book  is really starting to come together with some repeating elements: art dolls; maps; and photographs from my collage sheets. I think I have about nine pages left to do in my book (currently in various stages of completion); I have 22 pages completed, so my total page count will end up at about 30 (just as Bernice envisioned!).
What are your thougts about travel? Do you have a philosophy? Do you like to travel alone? Where would you most like to travel next?

I am loving this project so much Rinda! Well, we will be ready for you the moment you decide to come ... I really liked how you wrote about seeing one place fully rather than moving from place to place to cross that particular destination off the list - that's how we like to do it too!

Rinda, what a great project! The places you have illustrated look like fun places to visit.

This certainly is a fascinating project. We have spent the last couple of years taking taster trips from the cruise ship to lots of different destinations and we now have a list of places we would love to return to for longer trips. Anything Scandinavian is good with us. travelling on my own? I wish

I'm not sure if I'd want to travel alone....I think I prefer sharing the experience.....but I love your solo page.
Like Sian....we like cruises for taster visits....and have a list of places we would like to return to for longer visits.....we returned to Palma for a week last year after a cruise visit [and some places we definately won't be going back to].

I like exploring one area for longer periods of time too. Agreeing that traveling alone has positives but not sharing the experiences is hard.

This book gets better and better, Rinda! We still have two domestic travel sites on our bucket list, but now that we've experienced international travel, I'm anxious to get back to Europe! We're thinking our next big trip will be to Glacier National Park and the Canadian Rockies.

We love to travel, but do not get to as often right now. We'd really like to do more international travel when schedules change around here. Right now we're thinking about/planning a road trip to Arizona in the fall - seeing west Texas along the way.

I am really enjoying your book Rinda, and hearing about your travel philosophy. I am a fan of the 'taster' sessions. I like to spend a few days in a city and walk round with my camera, not too bothered about museums etc. When the kids were little we rented apartments and shopped for local foods to cook, it was good fun! Our next big adventure is to California and Oregon on a Harley Davidson m/c, won't be stopping long anywhere, but seeing the sights from the motorbike:) After that we fancy New Zealand. I don't want to travel alone, too scared to!

Great looking pages Rinda. Travel we don't do. First of all, because we both don't want to fly. If there was some where that I would want to visit, it would be Spain. Love your book.

I would share your philosophy - living in a country rather than bring a tourist passing through is so much more rewarding. Your pages are wonderfully varied and rich in detaill and imagination.

I totally agree with your philosophy of travel. I love to visit local shops to buy food - event he supermarket in a different country can be fascinating

If you are thinking of doing a University stint when you get to visit Australia I'd advise you to not do ANU - yes it is the big research uni and therefore full of interesting academics but Canberra is the least interesting of the Australian cities and not by the sea

Great looking pages! <3

LOL! To Helena's comment ... she is spot on, Canberra would not be the highlight of an Australian trip! However, Melbourne Uni or Monash Uni ... both in Melbourne, would be great. Sydney Uni or Uni of NSW would be the choices in Sydney.

Don't get us started ... we'll get you here somehow, someday! ;)

I have really enjoyed your travel pages, Rinda, and I had to smile when I read your wish list for Australia. If I ever go there (and I hope to someday), meeting Amy would be on my list of sights to see as well. ;o)

I have enjoyed your posts from that class. It looks like you have really enjoyed it. I prefer to travel with my family too. That way we can continue to share those memories together in the future.

Every since I was a teenager I have been wanting to go to Australia, so I can related to your What's Next page. Your book is going to be such an awesome collection of personal insights!

More great pages for your book! Love your Australia list and so interested in Amy and Helena's comments about Canberra as we thought we'd go there while we over there next year. I think we'll cross it of and instead follow the ocean between Sydney and Melbourne.
