Look Up//Look Down #14: Middle Gate

Spring continues its inevitable arrival, and I am continuing to look up and look down for a weekly photo pairing, inspired by Helena.  This week I am out back again. A few years after we purchased our house, we purchased the undeveloped lot behind our house. We fenced it, leveled it, threw down grass seed and planted a few trees. Someday we will build a one story house on it where we can live when we can no longer manage a large house with stairs. In the meantime, it's been a play yard (first for the kids; now for the dogs). Today's look up photo is a picture of the latch on the middle gate which divides our back yard from the "back back" (as we call it). And I'm looking down at a small patch of weeds flowers, a sure sign of spring.
What do you see when you look up and look down? I realize, for me, it's a window on the future.

  1. A lovely rustic pairing - I can just imagine you in as log cabin, pottering among the knee high wild flowers :). Wish our Spring felt as inevitable :).

  2. Like Alexa....I'm beginning to feel that Spring's arrival isn't as inevitable as I had thought!!!!
Glad it definately is arriving in your part of the world.

  3. I can remember you telling me about that piece of land when we were together. Something about seeing the spring flowers there now is very cheery indeed

  5. How lovely to know that you won't have to move away from your community in the future.
As others have said, Spring is feeling anything but inevitable here! Glad to see a peek of it elsewhere.

  6. We were lucky enough to stay in a lovely home for part of our time in Oregon. The couple had done just what you are planning to do. They purchased the lot next door, and five years ago built their dream house on the lot. It was one fabulous place!

If I look up today it's gray skies, no buds on the trees yet. But we looked out our bedroom window this morning to see two deer ambling through, and I realized our hellebores is blooming.

  7. Oooh those daisies look magical Maria. I am waiting for them to arrive here, although the badgers are pulling the lawns to pieces looking for yummy bugs so the daisies might not come at all,

  8. I noticed the daisies along the roadsides today as I drove into town. I love them, they are so cheery. I like the latch, but I see a bird or is it a one eared cat?

  11. The photo of the latch is gorgeous!!! What a lovely plan you and Paul have for the future. If I look up I see green shrubs and a Carolina blue sky, if I look directly down I see my dirty kitchen tile floor...compelling me to get off the computer :(

  12. How nice to have a "back back"! It's definitely spring here, I've prepared all my veggie spaces and can't wait to start planting. My front yard where the lawn used to be already looks so much nicer than last year.
I love the photo of the gate latch!
