Weekend Landscape

I've been quite busy lately. . .
Yesterday I drove the boy out to California's central valley (south east of Sacramento) to watch him play soccer. It was a beautiful sports facility and a lovely day. The boys won.
My term is ending this week, and I'm busying marking papers and starting to plan for the summer course I will teach in Dublin, Ireland ("Transnational Negotiation and International Dispute Resolution").
I gave up on my book group's book ("The Whipping Club" by Deborah Henry) because I really hated it! This review sums up my feelings pretty well. I would, however, recommend "Swim Back to Me" by Ann Packer.
Today the family is off to watch a S.F. Giants baseball game.
I hope to be back to my art desk soon.

  2. Love baseball season. Watching my Astros as I write. Wishing them much needed luck. Hope your Giants win.

  3. The weather has been so weird over here! But it's finally nice today...
About the books, I do make myself finish a book even if I don't like it, just out of exercise if nothing else. There's one that I have not been able to finish yet, not liking the slow speed too much, but it is good to have something to do while waiting for the kids or stuff like that hehehe :oS

  4. Yes, that sounds busy enough... I hope you're enjoying life though - sounds as if you are. You have plenty to look forward to as well - especially that time in Ireland!
Sounds as if Henry is quite busy too, with soccer etc. Nice to hear his Team won their match (especially when you had to drive a bit of a distance for him to play!)

I read the book review - interesting reviewer, as well as the review itself! I agree that I have found many recent novels, that I have "tried to read", to be so poorly written, that I haven't enjoyed them at all, even if the idea and basic story are good. Unlike the review though, I have no problem with discarding a book, if it turns out to be a chore to read it - Life is definitely too short!

Have a good end of term (gosh, we're just starting the Summer Term here...) and I hope your preparations for the Summer ahead all go very well. Oh, and that you get time soon, for some more Art!

  5. Hi Rinda. I'm reading Margaret Thather's bio right now and find it very interesting. I saw the movie and wanted to learn more about her. Wow, you will be teaching in Ireland? Goodness, congrats on doing that. I live in the central valley and the days are starting to be nice. That comment you left on my last post about the cemetery, "That cemetery calls to me," cracked me up. I thought you meant it was your time. tee hee. Not yet Rinda, you are still very young, beautiful and vibrant to go. Have a wonderful day. Love your photo.

  6. I've never heard of The Whipping Club, but I've read a couple of Ann Packer novels that I enjoyed. Just finished Mrs. Kimble---a very interesting read by an author who will be here to speak early in May.
