I'm still working through the assignments from a class called "The Art of Wild Abandonment." Week 3 took students out of their sketch books and art journals and into three dimensional projects. I'm not sure I'll do all of them, but I did like the idea of creating an Inspiration Board. I started with a canvas board, covered the bottom third with napkins and a drapery sample, painted the top part black and then placed some fantastic cotton lace across the middle. I've been saving that lace for a special project and this is it! The key was covering the lace with clear gesso, so that it becomes stiff enough to hold inspirational items:
I can also pin things onto the lace if need be. I plan to hang it over my desk. Do you have any kind of inspiration board? Blog friend Sian has this very cool wire-filled frame which she uses as a mood board. What about you?
what a great way to use a lovely big piece of lace.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a frame covered in link wire with clips attached as my inspiration board (looked better than it sounds). At the moment I only have a digital one
I am not so good with collecting ideas, I am hopeless with utilising pinterest to its full capacity and I have never successfully used a pin board - hmmm, I was given a lovely pin board a couple of years ago for a birthday present, time to hang it up I think!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful job, it looks great! I'm just using a white painted pin board, but with me, these things always just tend to get cluttered.
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty way of storing inspiration. I don't have any such thing, but think that maybe I should!
ReplyDeleteOoh, this is lovely! I can feel another pinboard coming on lol.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Rinda - I love the butterfly print! I have a pin board right above my computer desk that I made as a knock-off from what you see in the Pottery Barn catalog.
ReplyDeleteMaria - I'm SO glad you stopped by my blog. It's been a long time since I've been blogging and I was trying to remember the blogs I read in the past and yours was one of them! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful inspiration board!
Hey Cuz, Love your inspiration board. I usually cut pictures from magazines that inspire me and throw them in a drawer or in a folder. I definetely need an insirational board. Thanks for this great idea. My head is full of ideas for my board. Can't wait to make one this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI don't have one....but it's a great idea....I probably need one!

Lovely to be able to give that lace such a prominent place! I have a plain white magnetic one: very simple.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I have a note book where I keep sketches & decorating ideas. Plus I use Pinterest more than anything these days as my idea book
