Prayer Flag Sampler #1: Trust in Love (PPF)

I missed Paint Party Friday last week, but I'm back today to share the beginning of a new project.  I'm making a Prayer Flag Design Sampler.  I started with a small (about 3"x6") chipboard book which I had covered with gesso. On each of the eight pages, I plan to paint a design for a prayer flag. I think I'll try to stay with the traditional prayer flag color palette (blue, white, red, green and yellow) and put a message on each one that I want to send out to the world. Don't know whether I'll ever turn the designs into larger prayer flags, but I know I'll enjoy this process.
Here's my first flag:  Trust in Love.  One aspect of my one little word for 2012 "Home" is a commitment to nurture my family. To be honest, my 13 year old daughter is very challenging right now. But I trust in love to get us through this tough time.
Yes love. And cocktails.  Because it is Friday after all. And we made it through a pretty good week with her.
How about you? Are you ready to celebrate Friday?

  2. Yes I am ready to celebrate Friday. Especially since I have the day off. My plans are to video the trail riders who will pass behind my house on the way to Memorial Park for the Rodeo parade on Saturday.
I remember giving my mother a hard time when I was a teenager. I think I am just like her now. How I miss her.

  7. good luck with your prayer flag and although I don't have children I can remember very well being a nightmare at 13 (14,15, 16 & 17!) so I guess it's a right of passage for us all!

  11. Beautiful design Rinda! I really like it! Weegie was very challenging at 13 too! Luckily it only lasted one year, but I hear I got very lucky! I have to go through it 2 more times and I'm really worried about this next time! It's comforting to hear others when they say that they eventually turn back into the sweet girl they once were! Love u guys!

  12. Beautiful flag design Rhinda. Oh, 13 is such a tough age - when I taught middle school I gained a much better appreciate for all that the kids go through at that age (& the parents!!!). So glad it was a good week.

  17. great flag and my 13 year old is all about the rolled eyes, the tone of voce and the look when i say anything she doesnt want to hear ... i've actually said "i think you are saying that just to say the opposite of what i said" ... LUCKILY those incidents are not every day ... i hope you and Clara had a good week and that the good continues ...

  27. Your flag is lovely. I cringe everytime I remember how terrible I was to my mother as a teenager, and hope I can cope with my own daughter better. It's fantastic that you have made that committment to nurture your family.

  30. As much as I loved 13-year-old-Carrie, I'd never want to go back there. :o)

I love your prayer flag project, Rinda! I remember hanging out with you that day last summer and seeing prayer flags as we were shopping. I think it would be awesome for you to turn these designs into actual flags. I recently purchased some canvas sheets that can go through the printer - would be an awesome way to transfer these designs! And super easy to sew onto a strand of ribbon for hanging...

  33. Another great project! We celebrated with our friend who is having treatment for a brain tumor, her husband and another couple. She was able to leave rehab and come to our house for dinner. A treat for everyone, but especially her! So good to see her improving.
