Thanks to everyone who visited last week as part of Paint Party Friday! I tried to visit as many of the participants as possible, although blogger seemed to be eating many of my comments. I really enjoyed the link-up, and I'm back again this week with two more characters. For these, I wanted to make the faces more colorful (last week's all had fairly true flesh tones), and I really liked the results. In comparing with last week's faces (here and here), these seem to have more character and depth. I think it's a result of my growing confidence. I want to try something similar using acrylic paints, instead of watercolors.
It's funny, I've always said that I don't like working with watercolors. But what I should really say is that I don't like working with traditional watercolors. These paintings were done with twinkling H2O's and a water brush. I'm curious about what other water color and brush combinations people use and like - please share your recommendations in the comments.
And thanks for stopping by!
I really like the use of color in these pieces. I would love to try the twinkling H20's! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLoving your new people and think the colours are terrific. Happy PPF, x
ReplyDeleteI like the colors as well. Never heard of twinkling h2o's. Sounds cool! Happy PPF. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the colours, I realise when I'm using acrylics for some reason I often use ultramarine blue for shadows on flesh :) Happy PPF :) It was a fun visit!
ReplyDeleteoh...i love your characters...so cool...xxx
ReplyDeleteThe vivid colouring really had me stopping for a closer look!
ReplyDeleteLove your colours...and the caption under the second one!

I'm very curious to know what twinkling H20s are? I love the colour in these faces - it looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having fun with these creations. Don't be afraid to try new mediums. Since I discovered PPF, I have dabbled in all kinds of new mediums. Fun!

Love your people...they have such personality! :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely dynamic and colorful creations! ~ Hmmm ~ watercolor paints I tend to use are Koi water colors ~ pan vs tubes are my choice ~
ReplyDeleteOooh...I love these, Rinda. I'm so happy that you are sharing your sketches of faces as you progress through this class. It's easy to tell by looking back through your posts, how your face drawings are developing and your style is emerging. It's awesome! I look forward to seeing more face drawings from you in the future.
ReplyDelete(LOVE that Paul made your sketch his profile picture on Facebook. Awesome!)
Well done Rinda. Love the coloring. I never hear of twinkling h20's. Am going to look that up when I leave here. I use mixed colors for skintones. In the mail yesterday my Shiva oil crayons arrived and will soon try those. There are so many mediums but you can try the:
ReplyDeleteCaran DAche Neocolor II Watersoluble Crayon Set of 10
for a watercolor look. Too many to mention. Go to online art stores and you will see. Nice job on your work. I like how your girl is saying, "where are my clothes?" tee hee.
I am so drawn to the first portrait. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey look so much fun to draw. :) I actually started with acrylics and went onto the watercolors. They were the scary part for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of them. You gave them depth. Blessings, Janet PPF
ReplyDeleteWonderful expressions! I mostly work with traditional watercolors with an occasional foray into twinklings. I do like working on wet paper though. ~Happy Paint Party Friday #2 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done! I love the second one!
ReplyDeleteRich colors, and the lady with no clothes made me laugh!
ReplyDeletenice work on the faces!
ReplyDeleteCool colors and great job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you wrote...that these faces seem more confident and filled with character and expression! :)

I love your work on the faces! Each one is unique and has their own personality! I'll have to dig out my Twinkling H2O's. I forgot all about them. The color in yours is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou might like to try Caran D'Ache Neocolor II's. They are awesome and last forever! :)
I love painting faces with "unnatural" colors, it really makes you focus on the features and the structure. these are great.
ReplyDeleteLove love the color in your faces this week!!!
ReplyDeleteI too really like the color in the faces. It brings out the are from you. Great job.
ReplyDeleteNicole/Beadwright
Love the colors and those faces are incredible! I just laughed at the "Where are my clothes." Have a great weekend! Blogger is at it again with the comments or I should say IE!
ReplyDeleteSo you're also still working on faces - so do I. That class was great!
ReplyDeleteI do like watercolors - I actually like the little cakes. I once bought them to take them with me on our trips, and they turned out fine. I recently bought some watercolor pencils by Faber Castell and I LOVE them. I use them a lot on my girls. The caran d'ache water soluble crayons are wonderful as well.
watercolors are so different than acrylics, it takes much practice to get used to them...for me, it's all about the pigmentation...i don't care for WC pencils at all...what i like to do is buy ONE new medium and try it out before i buy more...that way you know if you like it before you spend a lot of money on a set...and sets by different makers can be tested by buying ONE half pan...i love my sennelier WC's but i don't like the windsor/newton pan sets but i like the WN tube colors...and acrylics are so versatile they can be watered down just like wc's...happy PPF, rinda
ReplyDeleteThese are great - It is so fun to see the additional colors! (Frequently I use whatever is closest on my desk when I'm ready to add color! Ha!)

ReplyDeleteOoh, these are great!!! I would love to try the twinkling H2O's too - they look so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with Caran D'Ache watercolor crayons too - they are addicting, xoxo
These are wonderful! Very colorful! I use Caran D'Ache Neocolor II. They are a little pricey but they just are so much fun. Happy PPF!!
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying your many faces. I would have never thought of doing scribble faces. Well, actually, doing any kind of drawing/sketching terrifies me. That is something thing I hope to get over as I would really like to learn how to sketch.
ReplyDeleteHave you tired watercolor pencils? I like using them.
I love the vibrancy in this set of faces. The strong colors are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi! Great colors on these and the caption under the right one cracked me up!! I don't use regular watercolors, but I love using watercolor crayons. Fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to say thanks for visiting me for my first PPF... I know I'm late getting back, sorry!
