Elements ATC Swap

I used to be involved in a lot of ATC (artist trading card) swaps, but I've avoided them as of late. Until my west coast scrap friends decided to organize one around all the elements on the periodic table! I don't know why it intrigued me so much, but it did, and I joined.  This is my ATC for element #44 Ruthenium, which is a byproduct of platinum and nickel. The name actually comes from the Latin word Ruthia, which means Russia, because the person who discovered Ruthenium is from Russia.  I decided to go with a Babe Ruth theme instead (he's an American baseball player for those who aren't familiar with him).
Do any of you do ATC swaps anymore?

  1. love your ATC and what a challenge to do them based on the periodic table, my goodness! for me that would be really hard since I'm new to ATC's. I did join a group and we trade once a month in person. There's about twelve members right now but we anticipate it will grow very quickly. I have been trading since October and I'm having a lot of fun with it. There's still quite a lot of people who don't know what ATC's are. I first learned about them several years ago in a movie I saw and thought it was so cool. I had been wanting to try it since then.

  2. great piece - I dipped my toe into the ATC world as part of a one little word class but it was badly organised and left me rather unsure of doing any more

  3. I *love* that you used Babe Ruth!! Fabulous :)

I've never swapped ATCs - most of the ones I make I keep (so really they should be called ACs....)

  5. I have never tried making any ATC's. I learned something new today - not being a science person, I hadn't even heard of Element no 44

  7. Never made any ATCs myself either...always seem a bit small and fiddly to make...though I love looking at other peoples ones....and that's a great take on the theme.

  10. Well I really don't remember much of anything from chemistry class!! Love it that you related this one to Babe Ruth :) I've never done an ATC although my LSS does them on Tuesday nights. Thanks for the little science trivia :)

  11. Great interpretation of Ruthenium Rinda! Looking forward to seeing it IRL. Just wondering... was that your idea from the beginning when you first picked it?

For those who would have been reluctant to do a science theme like this, google and google images are wonderful resources for info and ideas. And when you trade, you don't have to do them all. :)
