A Quote Contest for Monday

I made this background in my art journal about a year ago, and I finally found a way to use it.  The quote from Mark Twain reads:
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness.  I am off traveling and photographing the world and sending prejudice far, far away."
Here's a couple other quotes I have found lately that I really like:
"Live in the sunshine.  Swim the sea.  Drink the wild air." Ralph Waldo Emerson, featured in a digi kit from Ali Edwards.
"Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire." Catherine of Sienna, found on the Beauty of Different blog.
Besides quotes, I also love stencils and masks.  So, I thought I'd run a little give-away today.  Post a comment with a favorite quote, and I will enter your name in a random draw for a Tim Holtz mask and a few Club Scrap stencils.  I'll pick the winner next Monday.

I am hopeless with quotes - I had one that I loved - even made a canvas with it printed on but it is packed in a box and I can't remember it word for word .... it was long ... anyway, it is all about living in the moment, stopping to see what is going on around you so that you can be both present and creative. I also love one from Atticus Finch, it is about being the same person in public and private - living your morality ... gee I need to unpack my boxes!

You'd better count me out of this draw since I am a recent recipient of a wonderful piece of art :-)

The quote 'Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire' was used in Prince William's wedding ceremony on Friday! When I heard it then I thought how lovely it was.

This is one of my new favorites. I have it posted above my desk.

I am a quote collector and I love LOTS of them. I've used several of my favorites in Art Journal pages last year. One was "You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." Nietzsche I'm a big fan of quotes from Anais Nin, Kahlil Gibran, Thoreau, oh goodness the list is so long.

One that I've hung onto recently is "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of something else." Judy Garland.

Oh, wow, I have dozens of "favourite quotes"! I have a little book to collect them (cos they might come in useful for scrapping etc). But my most recent favourite has to be this, which I bought on a card, that I want to put in DS' room:

"Go into the world and do well.
But more importantly, go into the world and do good." - Minor Myers Jr.

I can't think of a more wonderful thing to teach my son...

"I dwell in possibility" Emily Dickinson.

I often use quotes on my pages, it's a great way of committing them to memory.

I have collected quotations since I was a kid, and just recently got to work compiling them all in a single notebook so they would all be in one place to consult for my art journal and other projects. Two favorites are: "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives" from Annie Dillard, and "I have found that if you love life, life will love you back," from Arthur Rubenstein. But, oh my!, there are so many others that I love!

The quote used at the wedding of William & Catherine was from St Catherine & the wedding was held on her 'feast day'. May have been one of the reasons for chosing that particular day.
I love quotes too & my fave at the moment is a Marilyn Monroe one
'I have feelings too. I am still human. All I want is to be loved, for myself & for my talent.'

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. -- Hunter S. Thompson.

That quote from Mark Twain is right on. I'm reading his book "Innocents Abroad", and that theme comes through loud and clear.

My favorite quote - that played a big part in our decision to move to the US - is from Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

I like to use quotes on layouts or art journaling pages... One I like is:

“Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.” — Albert Einstein
