An Unusual Sign of Spring

Yesterday I was sitting outside on my deck, giving my dog a chance to stretch her legs and do her thing, and I noticed a sure sign of spring around here - my orange toe nails.  I get a pedicure 3-4 times a year, and in the spring I paint my toe nails orange.  Why you may ask?
It's my son's fault.  His high school colors are orange and black. And in the spring, I go to his baseball games.  When the weather's nice, I wear shorts and sandals.  And show off my orange toe nails.  Like any good mother would.
Do you have any unusual spring traditions?

  1. Funny - I often paint my toenails orange as well.

  2. You are an awesome Mom and better friend to Spring than the Easter Bunny!

Around my house there are no painted toe nails ... too lazy ... but maybe this weekend in honor of our Spring snow and your inspiration ... I'll add some Tony&Tina Lucid Dream sparkle goodness. :)

  3. You are such a loyal and patriotic cheerleading Mum!
I've never gone orange, but I LOVE having pedicures - they are divine!

This season change over is always the time where I notice big differences between my blogging friends, never so much when we are in the midst of a season ... our Summer, or what there was of it, is drawing to an end and we are having quite a bit of rain and there is a chill in the air. I really hope the builders get the remainder of our windows in soon!

  4. For me painted toenails are a sign of summer....it's generally too cold here in Spring for bare legs and feet!
Have never had orange ones though....what an amazing, supportive mum you are.

  5. Oooh, orange is a lovely colour for nail polish, and what a great reason! My kids school colours are burgundy, so I might have to pass on that one!

  6. This is great! I'm getting my nails done next week - but mine I usually blue. I'm glad to see your signs of spring are showing up. Good Luck to your son's team this year. I'm sure they will be just as amazing as last year.

  7. I'm a french pedicure gal. I don't know why - color on my toes freaks me out. But I know it is really and truly Spring when I feel safe switching my closet around (takes all of about 5 minutes) to move the Spring/Summer clothes to the front.

  8. Is there anything you wouldn't do for that team?? Don't answer that..

Mmm, Spring. I do actually sometimes leave the house without a coat :)

  9. Your loyalty knows no end; but seriously, the orange toenails look great. I think I had a dark orange nail polish once for fall. One spring tradition is to get the first pedicure. Mine is schedule for the end of April. That will be about the time we might be able to wear sandals on a regular basis. Today I'm going out to take pictures with several inches of freshly fallen snow.

  10. Your orange toes are adorable, Rinda. :o) Carrie and I are addicted to pedicures and get them quite often as soon as the weather starts to warm up.

I suppose my spring tradition is to set out pots of flowers on the patio now that the weather has warmed up. I love having color out there and it lasts until the summer heat arrives and the flower pots can't take it any longer.

  11. I love your orange toe nails. They look great. My spring tradition is to start getting the garden ready for planting my chili's and tomatoes and lots of other things. Nice post. Take care and have a great day.

  12. I love those orange toenails! Mine are purple in the fall for my college team :) I keep my toenails painted year round...reason 1) I hate the look of my feet without them painted and 2) I am barefoot as much as possible regardless of time of the year. Spring rituals...frequent trips to the Farmer's Market, fresh flowers in the house and allergy medication lol Congrats on being awarded Mel's first ever Blog of the Week!!! She has excellent taste.

  13. It's not quite warm enough here to paint my toes, but this time of year is when I break out all my pastel polish & switch from the dark tones I use in fall & winter

  14. That made me giggle, don't think I have any particular spring traditions but I think I'll have to find one now.

  15. Hey Rinda, have you seen my post today? It's special xx http://ispeakmelsh.blogspot.com/2011/03/blog-of-week.html

As for feet, yours look very pretty and I'm impressed that your support truly does go from head to toes (*groan!*) - I hate my feet though and nearly always have them hidden away. I can't think of any strange spring traditions round here, but maybe what we take for granted would seem strange to you?! I'll have to think about the kind of things we do and let you know! :-)

  16. That is definitely a sign of spring in your case. You are very good, I hardly ever paint my toe nails, just never get around to it. Not spring here we are just going into autumn although it is still really hot.

  18. I always have painted toenails, I feel naked if they aren't a pretty colour, but I usually go for pinks and reds. My son and husband support Tottenham Hotspur and their colour is navy blue, not sure that would look so cute on my toes! But the weird thing is, although I HAVE to have painted toenails, I hate anyone else touching my feet, so the thought of a pedicure ... urggghhhh!!!!!

  19. Too funny! I only recently have tried on orange nail polish... any only because my husband's college colors are orange a black. :)

  20. Oh I love a pedi - my favourite treat! I can't say I would get my toes done yet though - still too cold for bare legs!

  23. Ah haa, that is so Nice! I love the orange - it suits you. Very supportive of you to go for your son's Team Colours.. (do you paint them blue, red, white, black...whatever, in winter, to support the hockey?)
