2011 Intention: Fifty and Fabulous

I've already blogged about my one little word for 2011 ("health") and my resolutions for the year.  Today I wanted to share a bit more about my intention for the year: to be fabulous at fifty.  I have a friend and former colleague named Susan who discovered her photography muse in her 40's.  She takes stunning black and white portraits.  Several years ago, she did a series called "This is what 50 looks like." to celebrate her 50th birthday and the 50th birthday of some friends.  And the idea has stayed with me.  That fifty is creative and empowered.  That fifty is health and strong. And smart, too. So, as I am entering my fiftieth year, my intention is to celebrate being fifty and fabulous.  I thought about all that as I was creating this art journal page this morning.  The stamp is from Stampotique.  It was a prize from their fabulous design blog, which you can see here.  I decided to use it as my "something new" for the Drunken Stampers challenge, posted here. The girls are sitting on a piece of rusted grungeboard dock, which is based on this weeks Compendium of Curiosities challenge, found at this blog post.  I used to be afraid of my age.  I'm not anymore.  Are you? If not, please feel free to post it in the comments.

Love your energy about being 50. I haven't been enjoying mine very much, but am feeling more energised by your enthusiasm!

go girl ! I turn 50 next year and love your idea of reative celebration of the year. I've been fine about my age since the angst I felt when I turned 20 and became a 'grown up'

Fabulous first page, such energy

Fifty passed me by some time ago. I think I was too busy then to even think about whether or not it (or I) was fabulous. Although I find my age surprising (how did this happen) I'm not particularly bothered by it. I love being retired and having opportunities to travel and create things that I just couldn't do when I was working full-time.

Well, what a fantastic Poster Girl for fabulous at fifty you will be! May I say "Role Model"? I think I will - after all I'm only a few years behind you :)

Now then, you youngster, fab and fit at fifty is the way to go! Take it from an elderly 52 year old ;-) Age is often influenced by a state of mind and I think it is clear to all that you will enter your 50s full of enthusiasm for what this part of your life will bring.

I love this post, Rinda, and I feel the exact same way that you do - especially since I will be 50 this year too. (If I recall, your birthday is at the end of May? Mine is May 1st.) I love this time in my life, and I feel like I've really come into my own being with my creativity and not being afraid to just be who I am. As the new year rolled in I had these same thoughts about it being my fiftieth year. It's a great place to be and I'm honored to know another fabulous fifty woman like you. xo

Rinda - I will also be hitting the big 5-0 this year. And I'm excited! I decided last fall that my goal was to be "fit & fab @ 50" - I created a dream board and blogged about it here:

Glad to know there are others joining in on this journey!

I really don't remember hitting 50, so I guess it was ok! Oh, maybe I have just gotten so old and can't remember!!! Enjoy it! Love the bathing beauties sitting on the rusty grunge piece! Fabulous card!

I love your page! The year I turned 50 we moved to a wonderful coastal town. I worked very hard building a new garden from scratch and helping to renovate our new home. So much more energy than I have now. It was a very good year! I am sure yours will be too!

So, is it OK to admit that when my 40th came and went last year I sort of wished that I also had come and gone? Until 40, age had never bugged me. Oh well. It apparently doesn't bug me enough as I remain silly and immature as 41 approaches. :)

Your card is excellent! I love the colors and your bathing beauties. Especially your affirmation is Outstanding!

Have a fantastic, fabulous and fun 50th year!

I haven't had a problem with age until this year. In a few months I turn 40, and it's freaking me out! I feel and look fine, but it's the whole "in your head" thing that my youth is slipping away!
Be a fabulous 50! and I hope I have your amazing attitude by then!

Good for you! You're such an inspiration, Rinda xx

Me, just lately I've started to be afraid of my age. I need to overcome this because I know it's silly, and I'm happier and more secure now than I was 10 or even 5 years ago, but I wasn't thrilled to attain the age of 36 last year (or 35 the year before that!) and it was the first time my age had ever bothered me. Trying to snap out of it!!

I love your art and I love your spirit, Rinda! This is such an inspiring and empowering piece, and your use of rusted grunge technique is perfect. I have no doubt you're going to have the best year you've EVER had, and it's just going to keep getting better from there! You GO, girl!

I'm really loving the idea of an art journal. I can see how it comes together. Your journal page is very nice, I like the background you did and the fonts you used.

I shop at Stampotique too, I just love their stamps. Congratulations on winning the prize stamp, it's very nice.
