ISO Winning Cookie Recipe

We're used to being winners around here.  This one is playing on a basketball team which is 7-0!
And this one's soccer team went 4-1 during a very difficult pre-season schedule (playing teams from higher divisions):
So, on Saturday, I'm going to a cookie party. Everyone brings six dozen cookies and then trades with each other.  I love going to this party and always have a great time.  But, I have one little issue - there are prizes.  Fun, silly prizes. That I have never won, although I would dearly love to.  At least once.  So, I'm hoping you can suggest a good cookie recipe.  And by "good," understand I mean a winning recipe. The categories for prizes change every year, and the cookies are judged on appearance only.  In the past, categories have included "Most Martha Stewart Cookie," "Elf's Favorite Cookie," "Husband's Favorite," "Most Festive," "Most Decadent." I'd like it to be a relatively easy cookie to make, since I need to make six dozen.  So, please, post recipes or links.  I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.  And thanks!

  1. I'm not a big cookie baker, but, I have to say Ruth's recipe from the blog hop is fantastic! It was a cranberry and oat cookie - delicious and simple to make.
The bottom shot is a great action one Rinda :-)

  3. Six dozen? that's a lot!! Sorry, I'm not much of a cookie baker either. Mind you, I think an event like this might persuade me to have a go - it sounds like a lot of fun. Best of luck with whatever you go for!

  4. Good luck, Rinda!!! We all hope you win!!! As far as a cookie recipe, I'm sure we all have favorites, but my suggestion would be to go for "pretty." A really good looking cookie will be more impressive than a good tasting one in this case, if you know what I mean! The challenge will be to make 6 dozen of them. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Have fun!!! xo

  5. You should have had our most talented brother in law make you some of those awesome pinwheels that he makes and fed ex them to you. Just kidding!! Those are my favorite though and not only do they taste super good, they are very attractive looking. Good luck!

  6. Congrats to the winners in the family I hope you are added to the mix soon! I would suggest a crescent moon cookie (google the recipe), very easy shortbread cookies, with chopped almonds and rolled in powdered sugar, shaped like crescent moons and they taste fab! Good luck!

  7. Okay, these are super, super yummy and look pretty too. At my house they are called Whirlagig cookies - don't know why, but my Mom's been making them forever!

Use any peanut butter cookie recipe, and make that using creamy peanut butter. You can use either kind, but creamy rolls nicer.

Roll the dough out into a rectangle - I do this between two pieces of waxed paper for ease. Melt some chocolate chips, in the microwave is easy! Then spread the dough with the melted chocolate chips. Roll up like a log - again the wax paper is helpful. Try to keep a nice rounded shape. Chill for about an hour, then slice and bake.

  9. Good for your family's sporting successes! And the very best of luck with the cookie contest...

My favourite cookie recipe is a shortbread biscuit which is very simple to make, to which I add chocolate chunks. Use 1 part sugar to 2 parts butter to 3 parts plain (all-purpose) flour to make the shortbread. Cream the sugar and butter then beat in the flour, then stir in the chocolate. Be quite generous with the chocolate chunks! You can use dark, milk or white chocolate, or a mixture.

Bake till the edges start to brown - they take about 15 minutes at 200 degrees C - allow to set for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a cooling rack.

I spoon the mixture quite roughly onto the baking sheet, as they look quite rustic that way (see http://ispeakmelsh.blogspot.com/2010/10/280-of-365.html for an example - the one on the right had cocoa powder added with the flour).

I won't be offended if you don't use my recipe!! Good luck with whichever you choose xx

  10. I don't know where my own recipe is for Chocolate chip cookies, but I have been told they are the best. What I can tell you that I do differently is to cook them 25 degrees lower and and a couple of minutes longer. They come out more cake like. Now I might have to look for it and not worry about clogging the arteries!!! Good luck!

  11. Oh, and I don't flatten them at all and roll them in my hands like a meatball! They then flatten as they cook and are perfect in shape! I add walnuts also or pecans.

  13. I bake LOTS of cookies at Christmas and I think they all taste really good, but if you're looking for pretty, try thumbprints. You'll be able to find lots of recipes for them on the internet. Fill them with different colored preserves and you have a lovely plate of cookies.
