Decorating the Tree

This little bokeh-backed Nutcracker oversaw the tree decorating this evening. We have lots and lots of ornaments and each one is unique.  We've been collecting them for years - when we travel and as gifts to the kids or each other.  We opened the boxes, and I found my favorite ornament.  One I made in kindergarten (it's dated 1966):
Here it is, hanging on the tree:

And the hipstamatic version that will go in my JYC:

Clara had fun decorating; she loved the new ornament I got her:

Henry appears a bit bored with the whole tree decoarting thing but did seem to like his new ornament:

And a few last shots of some of my favorite ornaments and the finished tree.

  2. Clara and Henry will love that they get new ornaments each year. Sarah took her collection when she got married and it was so much fun to see all of them on her tree this year.

I think the oldest ornament on our tree is one we made for our first tree after we were married. It's an origami bird. We had little money for such things, so held a party where friends helped us string cranberry and popcorn and folded origami cranes. It was a beautiful tree. I have no photos, and only one crane left, but it always gets a prominent spot on our tree.

  3. Love those personalised ornaments, they must have been specially commissioned!
That was quite some tree you bought, however long did it take to decorate? Photos look fab!

  4. How amazing to have an ornament from your own childhood! The Mother isn't a sentimental type so I don't think I have anything like that.... I love that you have such a mix of new and old decorations, it's my favourite kind of tree :-)

  5. That's wonderful to still have a decoration made in your childhood...and most amazing thing is I have an almost identical one made by DS when he was 5....though I think it may be a larger version....as it doesn't fit on the tree!!!
    The tree looks wonderful.

  6. What a great collection! I have no ornaments I made as a child but I don't recall ever making any either so it is hard do say. We do have glass balls from the mid 60's that were on DH's tree as a child.

  7. Thanks for giving us a look at your fun collection of ornaments, Rinda. I love that your kids have their own ornaments that they will treasure for years to come! xo

  8. I love bringing out the same decorations year after year. Yes, we buy new ones too, but the ones with some history are my favourites. You have some lovely ones here!

  9. My parents still have our ornaments that we made when we were kids. So my hubby and I have taken to picking up ornaments when we are on vacation.

That said, my hubby has some ornaments that were made from ribbon, lace and old christmas cards when he was a kid. We added a few to the tree this year.

You can see one in particular lit up pink in the middle of the tree here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1404477&l=f58e70246c&id=1576217135
