Once a month, my blog friend Abi invites people to stop by for a cup of tea and a chat, and I like to link up whenever I can. This month, I'm inviting you all over for a beer. Let's sit on the deck and enjoy a brew and the sunset. If it starts to get chilly, we can bundle up.
Because the weather is like that these days. It's warm one minute and chilly the next.
It's the weather we have when we're in between winter and spring.
As we settle in and sip our beer, I'd tell you that "in between" is actually a pretty good description of how I'm feeling right now.
In between winter and spring.
In between the first part of my academic term and the second. Next week is "spring break," and I don't have to teach classes. I plan to spend the week working on a law review article I'm writing and working on moving things into the guest room/art studio I'm creating.
Because I'm in between my old art space and my new one.
I've done well purging and organizing my supplies. I've got a plan for what furniture will go where, and how I'll organize my stuff. Paul painted a book case that will go into our bedroom, freeing up the other book case to settle into the guest room/ art studio as the primary home for my supplies. I'm excited about finally moving things in.
Our talk might turn to my kids, and I'd tell you that I'm feeling in between a doting mom and a hands-off parent. It's great that both the kids are standing more and more on their own two feet, but I really, really like it when Henry calls to ask for help.
And, finally, I'm feeling in between sports seasons. Clara has started track practice, and her first track meet is a week from Saturday. She's nervous because she's not sure which events she will run or how she will do. I have all the confidence in the world in her, and can't wait to see her run.
Yes, right now I'm feeling in between, but by next month when we get together for a cup of tea or a glass of beer, I know I'll have lots to share.
How are you feeling these days? In between? Or already arrived?
thanks for the beer and chat - nice to be able to sit outside. Can't believe track is starting already, seems like only a few weeks ago the last season ended. I'm feeling a bit as if I'm in the waiting place in 'the places you'll go' book from Dr Seus
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of being able to sit outside and watch the sunset. In between sounds very apt for my life at the moment too - yeah I'm enjoying both kids becoming more independent but it is lovely chatting and being asked for advice too :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice to be able to sit outside....we certainly couldn't do that here....the rain has returned with a vengeance.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about being 'in between' with kids....though I'm not sure we ever quite get beyond that!!
Sadly, I'll have to pass on the beer because of all the medication I am still shovelling down my throat! Definitely makes me feel a bit in-between, I think! A 19th birthday has passed here, which means I've been wondering where the last year and those big 18th celebrations disappeared to
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to catch up with you. I think I always feel a bit "in between" one thing and another. Right now both my kids are doing well, and very happy so it's a great time as a mom and grandma.
ReplyDeleteOh how glorious to be able to sit out on the deck and chat Rinda. How I hope that will happen one day! I am feeling arrived at the moment I think! The term is nearing its conclusion and thankfully I am on top of work so its lots of finishing off at this stage. I know what you mean about seasons though and i guess about Henry but for me its coming from the other perspective! Thank you so much for stopping and catching up again Rinda.
ReplyDeleteOoooh...thanks for the cold beer, Rinda. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand that "in between" feeling - I've been feeling like that for a while now. And I smiled knowingly when I read that you like when Henry calls you for help! I love when Carrie needs me too, although that sure doesn't happen very often anymore. I doubt I'll ever really get the hang of complete "hands off" parenting - much to Carrie's chagrin! ;o)
Have a great weekend! xo
I'd have the beer and zone out for a while, soaking in the sunset ... funny you talk about in between, I often feel like that and it annoys me .. almost like I am waiting for the next part of life or thing to happen when I want to be in the thick of things - just living!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely break :) I am feeling over winter, over the cold, over the early arrival of night. I am not a cold weather person! I am feeling expectant for the arrival of spring and a trip at the end of the month with 2 friends to Palm Springs. Have you been? If so, any recommendations? I can't wait to see your "new" creative space :)
ReplyDeleteI'd rather prefer a beer to tea... what about some Hefeweizen? It's not that bitter.
ReplyDeleteHow am I feeling? I actually don't really know. My Dad died ten days ago, and I still don't really believe it. I hadn't seen him since 2009 - we had planned to see him this summer and celebrate his 90th birthday. However, he died peacefully in his sleep and I am thankful for that. He was independent until his very last day - what else can one wish for?
Thank you for the beer and to share a sunset with you was just lovely. All the talk here is about my boy making plans to share with his girlfriend. I am definitely in between emotions.
ReplyDeleteLovely to catch up in front of that soft sunset and I'll try a little of the beer, just to see if I can get to like it (I keep trying!). I've enjoyed your description of inbetween-ness in your life at the moment. My own feels more like stopped and waiting to go :).
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling like I need a new challenge at the moment and know exactly how you feel x
ReplyDeleteI'm also in that in between period. But seriously need to shake myself out of it, as it's dragging on now - I think Spring may be the boost I've been waiting for!
ReplyDeleteMmm, beer, sitting outside, and a good chat. What a lovely way to spend some time! So good to hear you news. Can't wait to get together again next month!
