I want to make it a priority this month to use my DSLR to take some photographs, so when I realized that the rhododendron was starting to bloom, I thought it would be a good subject for this week's look up//look down (hosted by Helena). I enjoyed a nice long photo shoot with this plant. I used my 50 mm fixed lens and often found myself needing to focus manually, which went surprisingly well. Looking up at a blossom and down at a bud. The rhododendron blooms for a very short period of time, so I'm glad I was able to capture it. And I like how the pair shows the beginning and end of the growth process.
While I was out back, I couldn't help but do another look up//look down because our meyer lemon tree was exploding.
Looking up at a fruit-laden branch and down at the ground under the tree to see what has fallen. I know it's still spring, but the lemons are so summer-y!
I like how this meme is helping me document what's going on in my backyard. What's happening in yours this week?
Confession time ... I have not used my dSLR since before Christmas ... you have prompted me to break it out this week!
ReplyDeleteGoogle how to make a watermark Rinda - it's very easy.
Fabulous colours in both sets Rinda. Glad you are enjoying your dslr again.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos. The Rhododendrons are out here too, took photos at Wisley last week. I covet your lemon tree - lemon curd and lemonade would be happening here.
ReplyDeleteI just add a layer in PSE with my blog name then save as a jpg sized for the blog.
Wonderful pictures. I've never thought of taking a picture of a flower from underneath. Have to put that on my list of shots to get! Oh I envy you a Meyer lemon tree. It's so hard to find meyer lemons here, occasionally Whole Foods will have them but that's it.
ReplyDeletelove the strong colours and that the pairs show 'stages in life' of each plant
ReplyDeleteThe light is so beautiful. It feels like a tonic here this morning!
ReplyDeleteHi Rinda Just catching up on your blog posts. It has been a while...
ReplyDeleteLove your Looking Up and Down posts, such vibrant colours. Those lemons look delicious.
Glad to see that plans for this year's scavenger hunt are in place. So looking forward to it. Irene
Fabulous photos! And how lucky are you to be able to grow a lemon tree! I used my DSLR much more last month and to take the tulip photos on my blog:)
ReplyDeleteIf I lived in the right climate, a lemon tree would be my first purchase! The photos are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy rhododendron bush burst into flowers last weekend without my noticing it was about to. The irises are getting ready to bloom. I always seem to catch them. Our fruit trees are only now flowering, we won't see fruit for a couple months yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving those bright colors and I'm enjoying your up and down photos.
ReplyDeleteoh wow a lemon tree in your backyard. I always wanted to live somewhere where it was hot enough to have a lemon tree x great photos x

ReplyDeleteOh my, it's going to be many a week before our gardens have such colour in them! Just look at those lovely lemons, just crying out to be added to a cocktail or two!
ReplyDeleteThose lemons made my mouth water!!Mmmm! Great photo's & yay for getting out the DSLR! I love my Canon but sometimes it's not convenient to carry but I do prefer the quality of light it captures! We actually had weather good enough to work in the garden this last weekend, so our garden is looking tidier but now needs some summer planting! Need to do a car-boot sale to raise some funds for plants!! LOL!! :D
