Look Up//Look Down #5

Helena is hosting a weekly photographic meme, inviting a pair of photographs - one taken looking up and one looking down.  This week, I paused out back before going for a run. I was standing on the back deck and looked up to spy the underside of the top deck. I looked down to see my new running shoes.
This meme has really gotten me to think about how two images can pair with each other to create a story or highlight certain colors or patterns. Last week, I was all about blues and the coming of spring.  This week, I'm all about textures and grids, revealed through grays and greens. 
I used to follow a blog called 3191 Miles Apart, where two women each posted a picture from their morning. I loved examining the juxtaposition to find patterns and meanings. I liked it so much that I eventually bought the book they produced from the project, "A Year of Mornings." It's a beautiful, peaceful book which shows two lives captured through random images. Helena's meme has brought this all back to me. And I love it. I just added the newly revised (to me) 3191 blog to my blog reader and I'm looking forward to seeing what Maria Vettese and Stephanie Barnes are up to these days.
And I was wondering . . . what do you look for, what do you see, in the pairs of Look Up//Look Down photographs? Or any photo pair? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    First and foremost I try to have the up and down taken from the same point and on the same day. I do try to look for interesting lines or angles, but mostly I am looking for two shots that describe the scene or the moment. I have focused on colour or anything else yet.

    I love the 3191 project - two other girlfriends and I were considering doing something similar, we all live in vastly different parts of the country and our lives are so diverse it's hard to believe we live in the same country. Anyway, we haven't so far!

    love the colours of this pair

    I'm also enjoying how a pair can tell a bigger story than a single photo

    I do look for simillarity and contrst in the pairs which have been posted and I mostly think about it when taking the photos too

    I think I've been most struck by the colours - here I love that soft grey paint, sometimes it's the bright blue sky or a flash of cheery green. Yes, definitely the colours

    I notice different things with different photo pairings, but this time the color really jumped off the screen at me. Lots of times it is the light or the mood.

    the green in both first caught my attention. I think this is a cool thing to do - Look Up/Look Down.
    I love your shoes too! The green laces are very happy.

    I've seen a few bloggers doing this meme and the photos are always beautiful. For me I love seeing the perspective in the photo. I really feel like i am standing in the photographers place.

    I think it's s the colors that strike me as well, the bright green of the sneakers with the softer green of the wood trim.

    It's the structure and lines of the boards in both pictures, the bright shoelaces, and, of course, the hint of "Legs" of Bella! Just another great post at my

    These pairs of photos let me step into other people's shoes for a brief moment - with your two shots quite literally. I'm not sure if everyone is doing the two shots at the same time on the same day, but it's funny how often the colouring and the structures seem to marry up. Great fun to watch!
