The theme for this month at The Sketchbook Challenge is "Cabinet of Curiosities." At first, I thought this simply meant collections similar to what a naturalist might own. Then I did a bit of reading, and I realized it was more about a collection of the odd and inexplicable. So, I embraced the fanciful and created this drawer from my cabinet of curiosities. It was fun and easy, and I could see expanding the "skeleton moth" into a Dias de los Muertos piece. I could also see making another drawer in a different style - mixed media collage and acrylic paint. Luckily, there's still lots of October left to play with this theme! What would you put in your cabinet of curiosities?

ReplyDeletea great CoC you display. i'm glad you looked into the definition - i wasn't sure myself! i will have to think about my own CoC....
ReplyDeleteI had a look at the link first because I wasn't sure about how many odd things we have. We certainly have lots of little hidden curiosities though, I find looking under the couch is the best place to find such things!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Amy....though behind the couch is a good place in our house!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous work, Rinda :) At the moment mine would include 'broken bone'... ;)
ReplyDeleteWell now, we actually have a trunk of curiosities which came from my FIL when he died. It has the initials HP on the front, so the kids used to pretend it belonged to harry Potter; and inside it is stuffed with genuine curiosities like Great Grandpa's false teeth and a mysterious glass eye!
ReplyDeleteA mixed media Cabinet! Oooh, I hope you do that, it would be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful Rinda! We sing a song 'dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones...at my singing group. Now I will have a different picture of the bones in my mind!
ReplyDeleteooh that moth is scarey and reminds me of the Deaths head moth from Silence of the Lambs
