Last week I shared some of my sketches from Barcelona and some watercolor hearts I made inspired by the colors and shapes of Antoni Gaudi. This week, I finished this heart which also reflects Gaudi's shapes - so much of his work looks like dripping wax. I also made this stylized bird in Gaudi's style:
The mask reflects the masks which appear on one of Gaudi's apartment buildings. I enjoyed playing around with Gaudi's style so much that I tried to channel it in an art journal page and came up with this:
It incorporates textures which I think are reminiscent of Gaudi, as well as wonky architecture, feelings of community, melting colors and a nod to the nontraditional/challenging of conventions. I'm quite pleased with it.
It's been fun to play in the style of a new artist. Have you tried that lately? Who would you channel if you could?
This is offered as part of Paint Party Friday. For more painterly goodness, check out this link.
Isn't Barcelona beautiful? I especially love El Drac in Parc Guell! Gaudi's work is so colorful. LOve your sketches. Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours. The textures in your journal spread are beautiful. I would channel Emily Karaka if I had the option, or Frida since I am engrossed in a book I am reading about her at the moment.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketches Rinda! Wonderfully done! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteYour sketches are wonderful, I especially adore the heart! I'm curious what you used to make the circular square textures in your journal page... it's very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Love what you have made. I love playing with the forms and colours from Hundertwasser, too. If you like Gaudi, I think you must like him as well! Valerie
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Gaudi or the work. Must check it out. Thats whats fun about blogging you learn from each other. Love your colors. HPPF
ReplyDeleteLove the journal page - great textures in the background!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the colours, they all 'fit' the theme so well.
ReplyDeleteI love the journal page, and the beautiful soft colors of all three pieces.
ReplyDeleteRinda, you always amaze me, trying new things. I enjoy seeing your art. I haven't had much crafting time the last week or so, but I did take my art journal on our recent trip & made some collage-y type pages by gluing in memorabilia, etc.
ReplyDeleteLove all that texture!
ReplyDeleteI would channel Marc Chagall. I love all the amazing colors and the dream-like quality of his work--
I'd never heard of Gaudi so of course I had to go check him out. That's some really interesting architecture! And now that I've seen some of it, I can definitely see his influence in your paintings here.
ReplyDeleteLove your art journal page. The colours are gorgeous. You know it's funny I had never heard of Gaudi until you posted those Barcelona pictures.
