I've been working on a series of ATC's featuring elements from the periodic table (click on the ATC tag below for details and other examples). This one is Thallium, an extremely toxic substance known as "inheritance powder" because it was commonly used to poison people during the mid-1900's.
I used my twinkling H2O's to color in this stamped image. I've never been very good at using markers to color in stamped images (and refused to go down the copic marker rabbit hole of consumption), but I'm pretty happy with how these work. I think I'm just more comfortable with a paint brush in my hand than a marker. I also like using radiant pearls, but they take too long to dry. Linking up to paint party Friday and asking does anyone else use any type of paint to color stamped images?
As an ignorant observer, I have to say I really like how paint colours a background ... but I am a fan of watercolour so I suppose that's why.
ReplyDeletebeautiful! I just followed your blog and would love it if you'd follow me too!
ReplyDeleteHappy Painting!

This is lovely, Rinda! Sorry I haven't been around much, to follow what you are doing, but I like this little picture - I'll go and look for some more now!
ReplyDeleteYes, I also use watercolours, in preference to fibre-tip pens. Like you, I have refused to get drawn into the big "Copic Pen" craze - too, too expensive. I have normal watercolour paints and also some that are similar to your "Twinkling H2O's" - some glitter watercolours. I've used them on a few projects - they made a great job of a hand-cut title I made for a "fairy" scrapbook page for my niece.
I much prefer blending colours with a brush, to scrabbling away with felt-pens. And it's so much cheaper (esp. as I already have the paints and don't need to buy more; when I want a different colour, I just mix it up!)
Have a great weekend! X
absolutely love how this turned out! I'd resort to crayons if it were me! You so don't want to see what happens when a paint brush or marker is put in my hands! LOL Great work Rinda!
ReplyDeleteMust admit I rarely use paint as such on stamped images...I do use watercolour pencils scribbled onto card, dampened and then painted onto images with a brush.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I like Copics is that they have a brush tip,so more similar to painting....I don't get on with ordinary markers at all.
Love the effect you have got here with the H2Os.
I'm a fascinated bystander - I have never stamped and coloured an image - but I do love this water-colour look
ReplyDeleteI love your water color look too, Rinda. And having read Sian's comment, I'm not as embarrassed to say that I've never painted in a stamped image either. :o} I have used colored pencils (thanks to Mel recently) and I loved it - something I want to do more of in the future.
ReplyDeleteLove your ATC. I haven't used paint but have used water colour pencils before to colour stamped images.
ReplyDeleteI've used watercolors, H2O's, radiant pearls, and watercolor pencils (followed with a small brush and clear water.) I like them all, but tend to forget about some of them so I'm happy to see this post. When I get home, I think I'll pull out my watercolors again.
ReplyDeleteI've never painted a stamped image. I've used Faber Castell Pitt Artist pens (with the brush tip) to color them in and I've used watercolors. My experience is very limited!
ReplyDeleteHi Rinda. I do use Copic pens and love them. I have lots of them tee hee. Love your ATC with it's soft colors. I don't think I've ever done a stamped image. I like the works "Twinkling H2O's." I was going to look it up when last you mentioned and forgot so I will do that when I go. Nice work Rinda. I like this project you are currently on. I've never heard of Thallium. Very interesting. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI remember first reading about thallium in an Agatha Christie novel. Love that you are illustrating the periodic table, what a incredible project. It just sets my geeky heart singing.
ReplyDeletesuch a wonderful design for 'inheritance powder'! did you design the stamp as well as color it?
ReplyDeleteAdorable! ~ have a great weekend ~~ namaste, carol, (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF ^_^
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this - using the periodic chart of elements as inspiration!?? Lovely painting. I don't do much stamping where coloring is required. I mostly like to do heat embossing of stamped images. Anyway, I have seen some beautiful stampings colored with distress inks.
ReplyDeleteFaye
very nice, and the most scientific sketch today!
ReplyDeleteLovely! I think you did a great job with the markers. I've never tried coloring in stamped images, so I don't have any advice, but it doesn't look like you need any!
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!
What a novel concept using the periodic table for ATCs! Love the painting you've done with the image. ~Happy Paint Party Friday! #56 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33
ReplyDeleteGorgeous ATC. I like how you've worked the twinkling H20's. Happy PPF! Helen @ Natures Walk Studio
ReplyDeleteI am a watercolour and paint girl all the way... keep trying to get into markers and inktense, but keep coming back to the trusty watercolours... great finished product though... happy ppf xx
ReplyDeleteGreat colors!
ReplyDeleteI have got to get my hands on some Twinkling H2Os! :)
I am your newest blog follower, too! :)
Happy PPF!!

i am not a marker fan, most of them are not light fast...i never really liked to use a stamp for my main image...i like to use pattern stamps mostly for background images...happy PPF, rinda
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique idea! I love your work! :-)
ReplyDeleteoh...this is fantastic...i love the periodic table and you have done a wonderful job here...xxx
ReplyDeleteVery cook, Rinda! I have used watercolors pencils but mainly I'm a colored pencil and marker type person. It has never crossed my mind to use paint and I have twinkling h2os that have been long awaiting for me to feel a need to use them. tks for the possibility!
ReplyDeleteoh this is great! Love love.
ReplyDelete:)
I don't feel very comfortable with markers as well. However, sometime last year I discovered PITT pens and really love them. As long as they are "fresh" you can take a brush and work with them, and when they're dry they're permanent. Quite lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to work with the periodic table - I would never in my life have thought of that. I like it - a lot!
I have Letraset markers, but prefer pencils and watercolor. You did a great job, though.
ReplyDeleteA very pretty piece. I tend not to use markers or stamps so I'm afraid I can't help.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to paint the elements!!! This came out awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteVery creative ~ love it ~ reminds me of The Little Prince ~namaste, carol (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF ^_^
ReplyDeleteVery nice - I appreciated your comment about the Copic markers - I just use colored pencils, water colors or the old style markers that I have left over from years ago. Yours looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Tricia
Almost all of my works are ATC/ACEO's but I haven't used a stamped image. I do use stamped images on cards and letters though. I do like what you have done with your stamped image. Blessings, Janet PPF
