Every year for Mother's Day, all I ask for from my kids is that they let me take a good portrait of them. This year, we went down to the harbor area near my art studio. We found a wicker love seat near one of the industrial buildings, and I took this photo of my kids, my husband and my dog. Next up - some portraits in front of a weathered wooden shed I've been craving to use as a backdrop:
I also took a few in front of a rusted out pick up truck from a surf shop and a big container truck from the same place:
Although interesting, these didn't seem as successful to me. Part of the problem was that it was difficult to get the lighting right there. On the whole, the kids were good sports, and I am really happy with this year's photo shoot. I'm glad we went someplace different and looked for interesting backdrops. Have you ever done anything similar? Do you have any favorites in today's post?
I particularly like the first one of Henry :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the backdrops
ReplyDeleteThe second one of Henry is my favourite
The weathered shed was a fantastic backdrop! I agree that the trucks weren't as successful, but I think maybe it is the "busyness" of the background competing for attention.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did this at Easter - in front of a blue weathered shed and a graffiti wall near home! But the kids only posed on condition that I didn't post the pictures on the blog.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great collection of shots - in 20 years time you'll be looking at the faces and not thinking too much about the backdrops, I bet.
i think that's a great mother's day request and it looks like your family was very accommodating.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is the top one of Henry against the weathered board....a great shot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cheri about the 'busyness' of the trucks.
Oh, these are great and fun photos, Rinda. I'm really glad to see that your sweet little Gypsy made it in the shots too. :o)
ReplyDeleteI really like the photos in fron of the weathered shed. The first one of your son is gorgeous. You have very cooperative kids! And just a beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteI really like all of them, but my favourite is the two children with the dog in front of the weathered shed. A lovely set of photos :)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking kids...my own children are just toddlers, but as a former high school teacher, I'm a sucker for teenagers! Those were great backdrops you selected. I'm not sure I would have thought of scouting out that kind of backdrop for a traditional photo shoot, and I really love the idea.
