Easter at Our House

We had a very nice, but low-key Easter.  I wasn't planning to do Easter baskets for the kids, but DH Paul bought them chocolate bunnies and some candy, so I made each of them an Easter bowl with their bunny, a hard boiled egg, a plastic egg filled with cash and a bit of candy.  It was just about perfect for them.
Paul and I enjoyed mimosas and cracked a few eggs playing egg wars to make egg salad sandwiches for brunch.  Then we played Peeps Wars for a while (to play, you put a toothpick in the front of your Peep, square it up in front of your opponent's Peep, place them both in the microwave, and run the microwave until one skewers the other) :
For dinner, I made fideo, which is a Mexican chicken noodle soup and totally yummy.  You can find the recipe here.

And we had blueberry bars and Amy's very intriguing balsamic strawberries for dessert:
All in all, a very pleasant day!  How was your Easter?

  1. Those Peeps are too funny - they look like they are something edible??? not available here in Australia but I like the combative photography you have shown here!

Will try the soup, sounds like something all would like here .... how did you find the strawberries?

  2. I've already clicked on the link for the recipe. Looks yummy! I can't stand Peeps, but your game looks like fun. The Easter Bunny stopped coming here just a few years ago, but when we were talking about him on Sunday, Matt recalled the cash in the eggs as a favorite! :-)

We had a wonderful day. Thirteen of us gathered at my SIL's for a late Easter lunch--way too much food and chocolate cake for Bill's 90th birthday.

  3. Peeps Wars - too funny! But does it make a gooey mess in the microwave?

We spent a few hours at my parents on Easter Sunday (marred by my son running face first into a closed patio door - will blog about it soon!). Love all your photos xx

  7. It sounds to me like you found a useful purpose for Peeps--they certainly don't appeal to me from a candy perspective! The rest of your day sounds wonderful too.

  8. Hi Rinda. Looks like it was a fun day. I love fideo. I haven't made that in such a long time. It's still pretty cheap as well. Everything else has skyrocketed. Nice post, have a great week.

  11. oh the food looks delicious! I love fideo so yummy.

by the way I sent you this in an email, you probably didn't receive it:
I sent you the necklace but how rude of me, I forgot to insert a note in the envelope. I hope you like it. I liked it so much, I made one for me too.

Hope you have a great week.

  13. Peeps... is that what they are... birdie-shaped marshmallow sweeties! Love the game - must try it with some marshmallow shapes - I'm sure they'll have marshmallow animals in the local sweet shop.
(Mind you, those Peeps look as if they'd taste pretty disgusting!)

Thanks for sharing the recipe - I'm always on the look-out for interesting and nourishing things to make. It sounds so tasty!

We had a very enjoyable Easter weekend and Sunday was lovely, with all the family over for lunch and tea. J. had an Easter-Egg hunt, as always, but this year we didn't pretend it was done by the Easter Bunny - we just left the first clue in his cereal bowl (no cereal in it!) and let him go and find the rest (with mini-eggs for prizes as he went along). He had two Lindt Bunnies - one milk, one dark chocolate - which were hidden in the cupboard, along with a box of cat-treats for his favourite friend!
