This week's Compendium of Curiosities Challenge over at Linda's Studio L3 blog is fragment charms. So easy and so fun! I made a very simple charm with an image from ArtChix. My little addition was to add a mini-domino on the back for a some added visual interest and a bit more heft. You can get the idea in this picture:
Have you made any fragment jewelery lately? Or any other type of jewelery? I'd be interested to hear how you feel about making, receiving, or buying handmade jewelery in general. I love making charms like these and often incorporate them in my mixed media pieces. I also have a few pins and necklaces that I like to wear. But I don't think it will ever be a big part of my artistic time, simply because photography, art journaling, scrapbooking, card making and mixed media keep me too buys!
For the most part I wear very little jewlery on a day to day basis, wedding rings and a pair of stud earrings.
ReplyDeleteI do have some lovely handmade glass bead necklaces that one of my girlfriends was making a couple of years ago ... hmmm, that could be a good topic to post about in reply!
Before scrapping jewelery making was my main creative outlet - but it is expensive and there are only so many pieces I can wear or give away. I still have the tools and some stash so may dabble again this winter
ReplyDeleteI love jewelry and try to find a new piece each time we travel. Whenever I wear a piece, I recall the wonderful place we visited, but I've never made jewelry. Your piece is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved a string of beads - when I was little I wanted to be a 20's flapper girl with long pearls! I think that's why I love the little image you've used on this piece - great bob :)
ReplyDeleteLove it :-) I absolutely love handmade necklaces; I love to wear necklaces anyway, and quite a few of my collection have been made by me or by other (more talented) people - that I've been lucky enough to receive as gifts, that I've been lucky enough to win, or that I've fallen in love with and bought. I've also made a few brooches. I'd so like to be able to do it well, but really I just dabble!
ReplyDeleteI wear the same things over and over, rarely removing rings at all. I love making pretty much anything, but since I don't wear it...
ReplyDeleteyour charm is just too cute!
That is adorable & such a great size! I love handmade pendants but so often they seem huge to me.
ReplyDeleteOh, Rinda, I do love your charm - love the domino on the back for a very nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI went through a jewelry making phase. EVERYONE I knew received bracelets from me there for a while. It was fun, but I got tired of it and moved onto scrapbooking. Now, as you have probably noticed, I'm in more of a sewing phase. Ha!
I don't wear much jewelry myself, and the pieces I do wear are the same few over and over.
You fragment charm is gorgeous, Rinda! I love that ArtChix image-- SO sweet and such a great picture to use for jewelry. The domino on the back is a terrific idea-- the charm will hang so well with the extra weight, and it looks cool, too!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty Rinda. The domino is a cool touch :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a perfect image for this charm! She really stands out and is just gorgeous! The domino is a brilliant idea! Love these!
