What the kids are up to . . .

Blossoming - that's what they're doing.
DS Clara is in the middle of a two week visit to Southern California, staying with her aunts and uncles.  By all accounts, she's having a great time, but I do miss her. A lot.  More than I ever thought I would.  I know it's all part of her blossoming, but it's kindof hard on old mom.  Sigh.
In other news, DS Henry's Juniors Little League team won their district tournament (baseball) last week, so this week they play in the sectional tournament.  Last year, they came in second place at sectionals (missing going to the state tournament by one run!).  I'll be at the ball park Saturday and Sunday cheering them on.  Did I mention that last weekend, he traveled up to Lake Tahoe with a friend's family to play in a wood bat tournament?  By himself, as in without us. I guess he's growing up, too. Double sigh.
Really feeling this quote from Elizabeth Stone today:
“Making the decision to have a child - It's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.
What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. Oh yes! How true is the quote?! It is exciting to watch them grow though. Such a beautiful photo today Rinda, I love the depth of field and the colours are so fresh and pretty.

  2. So true. My two are now 8 and 10 so I know I don't have much longer before they're off doing their own thing....

We're going out for a family meal tonight then tomorrow is our end of year Sunday Club party (and our last session of being 'in charge'!) followed by a church barbecue. Could be quieter, could be busier - probably about right! Good luck to Henry x

  3. What a great quote - how true, how true. Very appropriate for me at the moment with 'part of my heart' travelling around Europe. Strange isn't it, when they are around, you are constantly aware of noise, mess and empty food cupboards - but I much rather that than quiet tidiness! So hard to let go - possibly the hardest bit of parenthood. But a sense of pride that you have taught them the independance to do it.

  4. Lovely quote, and oh, so true. It's taken me the longest time to get used to the fact that Sarah lives clear across the country.

It's unusual, but we don't have much planned this weekend: a breakfast out with an old friend who's in town for a visit, some time at the garden, a workshop on hydrangeas (my favorite is not blooming--again), and lots of time creating I hope.

  6. Great photo and sentiments. Yes, my heart walks outside my body in three different directions. :)

  7. A lovely quote. I am only on the other end of this. I guess it is quite scary seeing your children grow more and more independant. Abi

  8. It's very hard when you realize they are nearly 'grown up' and are off doing their own things....but you can be pleased that you've brought them up to be independant and confident.
Our weekend is final preparations for our holiday.

  11. I love the quote at the end of your post, Rinda. Makes me a little misty because Carrie is in Orlando, FL for 10 days at a work conference. She's all grown up and officially out of my nest. I'm still trying to get used to it.

Glad to hear your kids are having a good summer. Keep your chin up, Mom! ;o)
